During the summer months, Gulmarg is turned into a green area with lots of beautiful wild flowers in full bloom. During this season, the best activities are trekking/hiking in the Afarwat Mountains. There are also horse or donkey riding to explore the beautiful natural scenery.

There is also a huge golf course in Gulmarg town itself, which claims to be the highest golf course in the world :)

If skiing is too challenging for you, you can try the snow sledging whereby you sit on a sledge and the local people will pull you along. When you reach a gentle slope area, you can sledge down the slope which is very fun.

You can do snow sledging at Gulmarg town (at the golf course area) or at the middle section of the Afarwat Mountains (near to the cable car station).

Gulmarg is one of the best skiing resorts in India, so it is worth coming here in winter if you are in India. For beginners, there is a huge rather flat golf course in Gulmarg which becomes a skiing area during winter. For more challenge, you should take the cable car (sometimes known as gondola) to the middle or top section of the Afarwat Mountains where there are good ski slopes all the way down to Gulmarg town. The slopes also offer great views of the Afarwat Mountains, Himalayan Mountains and the surrounding valleys.

There are ski equipments for rental at Gulmarg and the middel section of the cable car (near the cable car station), so you do not need to bring your own equipment.

If you like ice skating or ice hockey, there is a ice skating rink in the middle of Gulmarg town near to the cable car station.

In summers when there is no snow on the mountains, golf can be played here. There is a golf club 'Gulmarg golf club' .
