There is not much options for eating in Gulmarg.. If you are a day visitor you can try the one off hotel restaurants but the one closest to the touristy spot would be Yamberzal(right at the entry point of Gulmarg) or Hilltop(next to the gondola)
I was told that Pine Palace's food is among the better ones.. But I was disappointed. Maybe their Kashmiri food would have been somethign to try, but I am not too fond of lamb so didnt give it a try.
On an average eatering in Gulmarg is pricey compared to the rest f Kashmir.. specially Srinagar. There are some veggie options but not too many.
Favorite Dish: Nothign quite worth recommending

Address: Pine Palace is close to gondola
Gulmarg is a very small town with very limited availability of the goods. The Bazaar is elaborate you can buy woolens, shoes or Kashmiri handicrafts though the choice may not be as good as Srinagar! Why not give it a try . I saw leather jackets being sold for Rs2000/- ( US$40). Please do bargain for anything.
What to pay: Please bargain as much as possible. Bargain is demand of the day!

The biggets tourist traps are the pony rides.. Simply avoid them unless u r a horse/pony freak or too obese to walk.
Unique Suggestions: The problem is the guys are not bad, its just that they pester a lot and one might pity that they wait all year for the tourists to earn their livelyhood. Make sure u clearly state where do you want to go otherwise they would take u opn a whole round with a mighty bill at the end.
Fun Alternatives: Just walk and enjoy the place.. its so green and inviting

On the road from Srinagar to Gulmarg, you will pass by several villages as well as many farmlands with views of the snow-capped Himalayan Mountains on a clear day. The road from Srinagar to Gulmarg is on flat land for about 1.5 hours, followed by 30 minutes of going up the Afarwat Mountains before reaching Gulmarg. On the way up the mountains, there is a look-out pont with great views of the mountains and valley. Along the way, you will see military trucks, soldiers as well as colourful trucks and buses :)

Favorite thing: One of my fondest memories are the very colourful vehicles, especially trucks and buses, on the way from Srinagar to Gulmarg as well as when we were in the city of Srinagar.
The vehicles can be very fast even though the roads are rather narrow, so it can be a hair-raising experience. The journey from Srinagar to Gulmarg is about 2 hours one way.
