The restaurant is so cozy -- wooden ceilings, furniture. We had appams and chicken and fish curry dishes that went very well with Kingfisher beer.

Koshy's, St. Marks Road (below Church St). A Bangalore institution, serving a smattering of Western favorites (like fish and chips) along with the usual South Indian fare in a bohemian-for-India atmosphere. On weekends, they serve up greasy Western-style breakfast, including omelettes and Bombay (i.e., French) Toast. Appam and Stew is their Sunday breakfast special and a must eat. Turn right at the entrance for the more expensive (and decidedly less charming) AC room. Rs 50-200 -copied from vikitravel.org
I've tried Appam and stew, my wife and myself like it very much.

This restaurant is frequented mainly by locals and is always very busy and also very authentic. Once it happened that we had to wait for a table for 10 minutes. Rare thing in India. The restaurant has been run by the same family for 3 generations. The menu is long, Indian and Chinese meals are also available, and it is a good choice whether you are vegetarian or not. Beer is available for Rs. 100.- Dishes are delicious and reasonably priced, though not the cheapest. Portions are huge and cost between 70-120 Rs. If you would like to absorb the very homely atmosphere, stay for at least 2 hours, sip a coffee, (better than at most of the places in India) a tea or some beer and watch the Bangaloreans (young and old) chatting with each other and relaxing. Some of them come in only for a cup of tea and some chat. The restaurant has a well-separated smoking and a non-smoking sections as well. If you want to see some real everyday life, go to the smoking section. It is not that bad, lots of ceiling fans are operated continously. It is possible to pay with your credit card. (EC/MC, VISA, AMEX.) If you are lucky (and spend at least 6-700 Rs.) the friendly owner will come to your table before you leave and give you some tiny present after a small and casual chat.
Try their fish biryani! Mattar paneer is also excellent if you are a vegetarian. Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 39 St. Mark's Road

Koshy's is a huge restaurant, located on St Marks Road (or walk to the end of Church St if coming from Brigade Road) Popular with western tourists as the menu offers just about everything, including steak which is relatively hard to find in India. I had a curry and it was OK, but definitely not the best I'd read a lot of reviews on VT so I thought I shouldn't miss it. Unfortunately I was a little disappointed, the food was good, but not great... and a little pricey! The waiter was great though, he chatted to me about his family and his daily routine (after lunch, picks his kids up from school, goes home for a little while, goes back for the dinner shift, after dinner goes home and watches the football) He has been working there for 30 years! So anyway, go there, but don't sweat if you miss out Theme: LocalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: St Marks Road (end of Church St)Directions: If you're going from Brigade road, walk to the very end of Church St and you'll see it.

Bangalore is a place where u would find all kinds of cusines right from the local masala dosas to the Pizzas to the hot n spice chinese cusine...if ur a pizza lover there r a number of places like pizza hut, Dominos.....if u like continental food...then theres a ocean of continental restaurants here....there r too many to list....rice bowl would be a good pick...u also find some mexican, thai and other restaurants too...the costs again range from place to place....if u would eat in a 5-star hotel then it may cost u like easily about $20....u may find a buffet if ur lucky...If u happen to eat in a kinda fast food place or a small restaurant it would cost u as less as a quarter
If ur tryin a south indian dish...then masala dosa would be a tasty option. If ur tryin some continental food then some sea food will be worth tasting Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: rice bowl is on st.marks road if i remember right

The long lines says the popularity of this restaurant. This place is just outside the Lalbaugh gate (not the main entrance), closer to JC Road. It operates in 3 shifts - morning for breakfast / afternoon (12 noon - 3 pm) for lunch and evening (5 pm onwards) for what is referred to as tiffin (old English legacy being carried) - but essentially snacks. The busiest time is during lunch time. One normally has to queue up to get a seat, but patience, it's worth the wait especially if you are very very hungry. The ambiance is very basic but dont be fooled. This is a sit down lunch, where you will be served at your table and the items keep flooding your plate (large circular one with cups to hold the various delicacies). The price is extremely cheap for what you are served but no compromise on the quality of food on your plate. The challenge is finishing what's served. Number of courses - difficult to count as its continuous. What's Special - Authentic South Indian meals (special to this part of the country). This place has been open for the last 90 years - same place - with minor modifications to the ambiance. Clean and neat. Ask for bottled water.
The Lunch time fare Breakfast - Dosa (crepe made out of rice and lentils) with loads of butter. Leave a Comment Theme: Vegan/VegetarianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Bengaluru, Bengaluru, KarnatakaPhone: 080 22220022ý
