 | Bangalore Shopping | Tips 1 - 10 of 38 | | Here is list of the major Malls in Bangalore, but beware that there are atleast a dozen in the planning and construction stages! Forum ('The Mall') These days no trip to Bangalore is complete without a visit to the Forum on Hosur road in the upmarket suburb of Koramangla, which is fast becoming the shopping hub of Bangalore ready to throw the M.G/Brigade Road area of its throne. Again like other shopping areas, you can find anything at the Forum, high international brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Swarovski to Indian Khadi at the Khadder. Other brands include: United Colours of Bennetton (much cheaper here than in the west), Pepe U.K, William Penn, Wrangler , Weekender , Nike. The Forum incorporates the clothing from international brands as well as haute couture boutiques : Mustard, Isis, B and the Chai shop. For books head straight to Landmark . On the top floor is a PVR multiplex comprising 11 cinemas. For eating there is everything, Fast food (KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Subway) Cafe Coffee Day and a food court with world cuisines including: Chinese, Vietnamese, Mexican and Italian and Indian. So thats that forum all your shopping needs under one roof! Its just a must see, especially the outside. Garuda Mall Located on the corner of McGrath and Commissariat Roads, is the newest mall in Bangalore. This Mall is definitely catered to the upper class of Indian society. Many of the same brands as Forum are available as well as some that are not. One of the major draw points of this mall is that it houses the Indian department chain store: Shoppers Stop, which once stood across the road as a seperate building but is now part of this new mall. The Mall also houses a INOX cinema multiplex on the top floor.

Bangalore Central is more of a large department store than a mall with seperate retailers. It still is must visit for shoppers in Bangalore. It is located in city centre on the corner of M.G and Residency Roads (Opposite Mayo Hall), is walkable distance to the main M.G/Brigade Roads shopping area. It has a huge range of everything (like department stores in the west), clothing (Indian and Western brands), electornics, perfumes, accessories as well as a supermarket on the top floor and food court plus a Cafe Coffee Day. They have a altering service with in the store and can be done in two hours depending on the rush. Safina Plaza Is sale central in Bangalore, located on Infantry Road. Every week there is sale going on of any type. One week it might be home furnishings and the next men's wear. Good place to find some bargains. Many exhibitons are also held here, although there are retailers (Dockers, Lee Jeans, Titan too name a few) here too. So for quiet shopping come here (much less crowded than the other malls). Its best to visit during end of season sales (summer, monsoon) or during festivals (New Year, Christmas, Ganesh Chaturthi). Marathahalli Main Road and Factory Outlets Located a distance from central Bangalore (although not difficult to reach), is Marathahalli (a village in a previous life). The main road of this suburb is now a haven for factory outlets for all major brands: Nike, Adidas, Pepe Jeans, Killer Jeans, Louis Phillipe, Levi's, Reebok etc.. You can expect prices here to be cheaper than in the Malls, atleast 20-30% price difference but can be upto 50% cheaper when it comes to some of the major denim brands! As if India wasn't cheap enough. Although this is the best place to go to for factory outlet shopping, there are smaller factory outlets scattered across the city. Also look out for sales held by the major brands to get rid of end of season stock (again end of summer or end of monsoon), these are usually advertised in newspapers or look for signs posted on major roads. If you want to shop in Bangalore till you drop, then Brigade road is the perfect place for you. However you must be sure of your pocket and must have an idea about how much you can spend. If you are a foreigner, then you can also exchange your currency notes for the Indian ones at Fifth Avenue or any nearby Foreign exchange office. In many cases that will not be necessary as most of the shops there accept credit cards. You can buy watches, shoes, toys, cosmetics, other than clothes. The best shop according to me is The Levis Store from which I bought a pair of denims.
Denims, Trousers, Jackets, Shoes, Shirts, Ties, Watches, Cosmetics or anything you wish.
This entirely depends on your pocket and your budget. Expenses may range between INR 2000 to INR 20,000(USD 40 to USD 500) Theme: OtherAddress: All are in Brigade Road.Directions: You can go to Brigade Road Circle first or enter from M.G.Road.Other Contact: No specific contacts available.

It's a upscale store with 4 floors of jewelry, arts, house accessories, etc. Quite expansive for Indian Standards but high quality.
Look for high quality local arts. If you don't care about the quality and want cheaper, better look at Cauvery Emporium

Shopping Indian crafts have been perfected over the centuries, from traditions and techniques passed on from generation to generation. Each region has its own specialities, each town its own local craftspeople and its own particular skills. Silks, spices, jewellery and many other Indian products have long been acclaimed and are widely sought after; merchants would travel thousands of miles, enduring the hardships and privations of the long journey, in order to make their purchases. For fabrics, silverware, carpets, leatherwork and antiques, India is a shopper's paradise. Bargaining is expected, and the visitor can check for reasonable prices at state-run emporia. Fabrics: One of India's main industries is textiles; its silks, cottons, and wools rank amongst the best in the world. Of the silks, the brocades from Varanasi are among the most famous; other major centres include Patna, Murshidabad, Kanchipuram and Surat. Rajasthan cotton with its distinctive 'tie and dye' design is usually brilliantly colourful, while Chennai cotton is known for its attractive 'bleeding' effect after a few washes. Throughout the country may be found the himroo cloth, a mixture of silk and cotton, often decorated with patterns. Kashmir sells beautiful woollens, particularly shawls. Carpets: India has one of the world's largest carpet industries, and many examples of this ancient and beautiful craft can be seen in museums throughout the world. Each region will have its own speciality; one such are the distinctive, brightly coloured Tibetan rugs, available mainly in Darjeeling. Clothes: Clothes are cheap, and can be quickly tailor-made in some shops. Cloth includes silks, cottons, himroos, brocades, chiffons and chingnons. Jewellery: This is traditionally heavy and elaborate. Indian silverwork is world-famous. Gems include diamonds, lapis lazuli, Indian star rubies, star sapphires, moonstones and aquamarines. Hyderabad is a leading pearl centre.
Handicrafts and leatherwork Each area has its speciality; the range includes bronzes, brasswork (often inlaid with silver), canework and pottery. Woven rugs and papier mâché (some decorated in gold leaf) are a characteristic Kashmir product. Inlaid marble and alabaster are specialities of Agra. Rajasthan is known for its colourful fabrics and silks. Leatherwork includes open Indian sandals and slippers. Woodwork: Sandalwood carvings from Karnataka, rosewood from Kerala and Chennai. Other goods: Pickles, spices, Indian tea, perfumes, soap, handmade paper, Orissan playing cards and musical instruments. Shopping hours Mon-Sat 0930-1800 in most large stores. Note There is a veto on the export of antiques, art objects over 100 years old, animal skins and objects made from skins. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Cauvery is a government-sponsored shop specializing in local crafts. Here, one is assured of the authenticity of the goods on display, not to mention being spoiled for choice.
Sandalwood crafts from within Karnataka are good buys here. Bangalore is the capital of Karnataka, where sandalwood abound, so you can't getter more authentic sandalwood anywhere else. If I have the opportunity, I'd love to get the stuff that are "endemic" to the place, not just for authenticity, but also for good value. Like for pashmina shawls, I'd prefer to get them in Delhi, which is closer to Kashmir, the main source.

Serious shoppers looking for quality but affordable Indian-made clothes (both traditional and Western) should head to Brigade Road. But choices are not limited to clothes only - one could almost get anything from this shopping district, which together with Commercial St and MG Road, make up the nucleus of Bangalore's shopping and commercial district. One more important tip: the narrow sidewalks could be so crowded at certain times of the day, particularly in late afternoon to early evening - another typical case of poor urban planning and infrastructure lagging behind development. Good thing is, pickpockets, which are common in most crowded shopping districts, are very uncommon here (at least I am not aware that it's a problem here).
Best buys would be branded clothes (vs. more generic ones in Commercial St). Shoe stores are also aplenty in this area.

India is a fantastic place to buy books. Just spoil yourself and buy for the entire year! really. It's so cheap! :) There are a few good bookstores on MG Road (Mahatma Gandhi Road). Just pop into any of them and immerse in them books :) Enjoy!
Things are in the range of S$9 - S$40 (Singapore dollars). Leave a Comment Theme: BooksAddress: Along MG Road
