If someone very "generous" offer you to go on a shopping spree for good deals, make sure you know the price at home before...you might get bad surprises...not everything is cheap.
GO with a local who you can trust, he/she will make sure the prices are decent
Avoid the big stores, try Commercial Road or the little markets on the outskirt. Also, try to leave the baseball cap, the shorts and the big camera at the hotel...act as IF you have been in Bangalore for 30 months...that will help... Leave a Comment

It is better to get a pre paid taxi as you exit from the customs section of the dilapidated terminal in Bangalore. If you think you can save money by organizing your own transport you would soon find yourself swindled by experts who say that they have air condiioned cars with meters on it and you only pay for the meter.. you and your luggage are half way out of the terminal when you realize that this is not a taxi, there is no air conditioning and there is no meter and he produces a chart which shows exorbitant prices to your destination. you are tired and you let go.
Get a pre paid taxi. you pay for it before you leave the customs section. you fear and no worries and you get to your destination in comfort. Not only foreigners are subejcted to this scam, i saw indians also falling for it, more so because they think they can manage better.. but they are also cheated.. Leave a Comment

Please be careful of people trying to offer you more than u request you.Beware of Auto drivers.Always insist on metered autos.Do not talk to strangers who offer you food or cold drinks to be " friends". You can ask people on the streets for any address/directions etc.People are friendly in Bangalore, but there are "overfriendly" type of people too. Dont walk on lonely streets in the night.Keep away from drunkards Leave a Comment

Indian people have a tendency to be unable to admit they don't know something, especially if you ask them directions. They will tell you they know exactly how to go where you want to go and in fact invent a route on the spot. If you ask another person, you will probably get a widely different answer. They don't do this out of malice but I believe that, culturally, it would be a loss of face for them to admit they don't know.
Ask several people and go for the most probable answer. Have a map with you as well. Don't hesitate to nicely tell them you have been told something widely different by the previous person you asked. At the end of the day, they will get out of their way to help you. Leave a Comment

by sandravdp Don't eat food that is offered to you on the street. The food was laying there for a long time or isn't warm enough. You will surely get stomachproblems from it. Leave a Comment

Although cheap accommodation is on most backpakers lists...beware of the location in Banglaore. Make sure it's not near the area surrounding the train station - unless ofcause you are able to sleep with lots of noise going on. The traffic, horns, music, talking, shouting etc etc just continues all through the night as most shops close very late and open very early. I think there was a brief half hour of silence between 2:45 and 3:15am I'm not quite sure when the locals acutally sleep. Leave a Comment

by srhussaini Don't depend on any unknown person. Be careful about picpocketers. Mysore was the political capital of the Wodeyar dynasty which ruled the state of Karnataka for some 150 years till the independence of the country from the British. These kings were great patrons of art and culture and Mysore was the cultural capital of the south under the rule of the Wodeyars. The Wodeyars made the Dasara festival an event. City of Palaces To showcase the rich culture and heritage of the town. Even to this date this celebration of the Dasara which is a 10 day celebration during the month of Oct/ Nov is a spectacular event to watch. Mysore is a city of palaces, gardens, shady avenues and sacred temples and retains some of the charm of the old world with its many institutions that propagate Carnatic Classical music and dance. Autos can be a pain at times. I repeat, not ALL Autos are a pain. Many tend to ask you for higher fares than the meter reading. Do not encourage this unless you do not have an option. But some Auto guys are really helpful and very hones. So cross your fingers!!
Do not encourage paying extra unless you do not have an option.

Do not encourage auto drivers to specify a fixedr ate for a ride from anywhere to anywhere! They are supposed to charge as per meter reading only. What shows on the meter is what you give them, no addition, subtraction or multiplication factored in. A minimum of Rs 14 for 2 kms and Rs 7 for every km afterward.
If not go to prepaid counters i the railway station or at Forum in Koramangala or at MG Road Leave a Comment
