The fastes way to commute in Bangalore is the Autorickshaw (auto for short) . Autos are quite frequent and are usually found clustered near bus stands, prominent roads, etc., Autos minimum charge is Rs 12 and most meters are not updated with this yet .Also according to a new rule laid by the Govt of India all auto drivers must display their driving licence in an easy to view location . It is illegal to ride in an auto whose driver has an expired liscnese. 50% surcharge after 10 PM. Some drivers may demand 100% surcharge after 10 PM or 11 PM but one must refuse to board in such a case. Heavy luggage will incur an additional fare, usually around Rs.10 or 20. Most of the Auto drivers will try and cheat you if they know you are not from Bangalore.. they will ask you directions like - should i take the left turn or the right just to test your knowledge ..if you fumble with your answer they will drive you all the way round Bangalore before you reach your destination... On arrival at the airport or station always opt for a prepaid auto / taxi so that you do not need to pay extra when disembarking. Nowadays a lot of auto-rickshaws come fitted with an electronic fare meter. If you want to take an auto-rickshaw, it is better to look for one with an electronic fare meter - these meters are generally accurate. A few auto-rickshaw drivers are ill-mannered, and you should be careful when dealing with them. Note that the new digital meters already show the corrected price for the trip (1.5x) after 10PM. Although Bangalorians are known for their polite and mild manners, auto drivers are an exception. Therefore to avoid conflict, consider taking taxis. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

An Auto-rickshaw in Bangalore by Kumarjit The auto-rickshaw is a special kind of vehicle used only in Indian cities. Although Bangalore has developed a lot in the recent years and is better than what it was few years back, the problem of commuting in the city still remains, especially for the non-localites. Having stayed in Bangalore for more than two years I have had lots of experiences about this. If you are a foreigner to India and coming to Bangalore, I would suggest that you use the auto-rickshaw for travelling in and around the city. Hwever, if you can arrange for your own vehicle during your stay, it is going to be a blessing for you as the auto-rickshaw drivers here are very clever and charge much more than the actual fare when they see people from other parts of the world. Bangalore does not have yellow cabs. However, you can get taxi service only if you call the Taxi Centre and make a prior booking. Nevertheless, I feel it will be best for you to contact the travel desk of the hotel in which you will be staying or your travel agent. Because from what I have seen, I can tell you that travelling in Bangalore can be a real trouble if you are a non-localite. Theme: OtherOther Contact: No specific number or website

Bangalore bus stand is well-maintained and conveniently located opposite the city railway station. Officially named after the founder of Bangalore, 'Kempegowda' but more commonly known as 'the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stand,' it handles buses that connect Bangalore to all major cities and states in south India. T The main bus stand of 'the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) ,' which maintains bus services within the city, is located next to the 'Majestic Bus stand' There are 4 major Bus stands: Majestic Bus stand near Gandhi Nagar is close to the railway station and is quite neatly organised and is easily navigable. City Market is around 2 to 3 kms away from Majestic and could daunt newcomers, since it is very disorganised. Shivajinagar in the north and Jayanagar 4th Block in the south have Bus stands as well. Most Bus stops in the city are undergoing a revamp and have good display depicting the buses that frequent the stop and the name of the stop. Commuting by bus is an experience. I would reccommend boarding the bus at the starting point eiter Majestic or Shivaji Nagar and buying a fare to the last stop. This way you get a mini tour of Bangalore but you will also get to actaully see the real people that live in Bangalore - the traditional middle class . A NEW ADDITION TO THE BANGALORE BUS SERVICE ARE THE AIR CONDITIONED BUSES .THEY ARE UNDOUBTEDLY MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WELL WORTH THE MONEY U PAY AS U TRAVEL IN COMFORT :) Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

The Bangalore City railway station is situated in the centre of the city, around the Majestic Bus stand and all trains, local and out-bound arrive and depart from here. The newly established Yelahanka railway station located in a suburban location, about 10 kilometres away from the main railway station is growing and there are a few outbound trains that regularly arrive and depart from it. Bangalore also has a railway station in the Cantonment Area, called the Cantonment Railway Station - this is centrally located and in a better part of town. Not all trains stop here, though. Bookings can be done at either the railway station or at a few of Indian Railways booking counters at major residential areas. Booking can also be done online from the Indian Railways site. Note that if you are booking at Bangalore Central and are travelling to Mysore, there is a different line for travellers to Mysore and travellers to all other destinations. This is to cater for the large amount of travellers between Bangalore and Mysore. If travelling to Mysore on a Sunday afternoon, arrive early as there is usually a long ling for reserving tickets! by grets We travelled to Bangalore on the overnight train from Trivandrum. It was a quintessetially Indian experience and one which I would not have been without, despite many hours of boredom. The journey took 20 hours. One of the highlights was on arrival at Bangalore station. Unsure about whether this actually was the correct station my mother was trying to ask the question of the Indian couple we shared a compartment with. They were unable to undersatnd or speak English, but suddenly we heard a posh English voice outside the window saying: "Yes Mrs Howard, this is the station where you get off" It was Simon Bazely, who had liased with his agents in Trivandrum to find out which compartment we were in and had travelled up from Delhi to meet us at the station. Such service! Leave a Comment Theme: Train

The best road condition I've seen by ChuckG Just one tip ! DO NOT DRIVE If you think Europeans, Americans or Middle Eastern are crazy drivers. You haven't seen India. No one use flashers, everyone honks and I have not seen much street signs or police. My cab drivers were kamikaze but we had to dive on the side of the road a few times to avoid frontal collisions with busses or lorries. Auto-Ricksha are a good alternative in the city but negociate price. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by sandravdp You want to go to another village. Maybe you want to go by bus. Most buses don't look to great. They are like the one on the picture. People can hold on on the roof when the bus is full... Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

by sandravdp By motorbike? Well, you should be very careful when you do. The road is filled with deep holes and bumps. Sometimes the road only exists from sand and rocks... Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

by sandravdp Rent a bike or just walk. Distances are small in the village. On the picture: these people go to other villages by tractor. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle
