The broad road that lies in front of the Virupaksha (Pampapati) Temple has a left fork towards the far end as you walk away from the temple. This junction leads you to a smallish market and lodgings normally frequented by back backers and those looking for a decent, clean, budget-friendly accommodation.
As you head towards this bazaar, there is a smart souvenir shop to your right, slightly off the road. This is the ‘Akash Art Gallery & Book Stall’. As the calling card of the Proprietor, Shri. I. Nagaraj proclaims they are ‘Specialist in Precious and Semiprecious Stones, Brass, Silver, Jewelery, Tankas, Etc’. They also deal in fruits, spices and incense.
It is a house with two front rooms converted into shop dealing with artifacts, souvenirs and books on Hampi. The rooms are well-stocked and you may browse around to your heart’s content. The floor-level shelf facing you the moment you enter the shop has plenty of genuine items at throwaway prices. Check them out before your attention gets diverted to the other more costly articles.

What to buy: You can buy whatever you want : hippie style dress and shirts, bags, jewels, wooden god statues, paintings... A paradise for the western shoppers, but not for the woman that want to buy saris ;-)
In Hampi you can see all these clothes hanging in beautiful colors, with beautiful edges. Well, the color I wanted was not in the size or shape I wanted it in. So what you can do if that is the case; you ask the shopkeeper to measure you, and have your clothing custom made for almost nothing! I have some nice comfy pants in my favourite color now!
