As you know that Mysore is a place with a hefty tourist traffic, the entire economy of the place is dependent on the same. You might find food stalls with those heavy lights and colorful food on display all over.
Beware and try avoiding the food as much possible, especially the road side joints.
I went to Brindavan Gardens once. I was hungry and was attracted towards one of the stalls serving Veg Manchurian. Decided to have a bite, I took a plate and to my surprise and disappointment (since i was really hungry), I was not able to eat it. I found bones pieces inside.
It is quite possible that the same place was serving chicken too. I guess the bones came from there. AT LEAST HOPE SO

Krishna Raja Sagar Dam (KR Sagar Dam) provides water to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu from the Cauvery River near Mysore. This sharing of water supply is the source of much dispute and at times the Bangalore-Mysore Road can be closed because of Cauvery water protests. If the road and trains are closed to Mysore and you are still desperate to get there then go by the long way through Hassan (I have done this).

The Desera fastival is famous at Mysore, but be careful. My friends returned from the festival with razor slits at the bottom of their pants pockets and their wallets and passports gone. They later remembered the time some people in the crowds were pushing in on them to create a disturbance for the pickpocket artists to strike.

Walking back to the car park from the illuminations at Brindavan Gardens, we were surrounded by mozzies. Hundreds of thousands of the buggahs were attracted by the street lamps and the nearby water. You had to be careful when you breathed in so that your didn't get them up your nose.
You can see one of them caught by the flash in this photo.
