One thing in Kerala food you have many option, big hotel to small Restaurant's offering local foods.Near beach its little costly I find, outside Kovalm on the way we stop for lunch,so many dishes and the bill came only Rs110/only.Foos is so yummy.
This is a new restaurant which serves various meals from local authentic delicacies to chinese cusine. Fresh fish cookd the way want is superb. The staff are very good and the service is great. You may have to wait for your meal as meals are cooked fresh and to your liking. The wait is worth it. The food is delicious.
While you eat, you can watch the waves lapping the shore.
This is a special place and well worth a visit.
Favorite Dish: I have tried several of the local dishes and all are as good as the other.
Grilled Butter fish with garlic butter, Skark steak, cooked on the tandoor to perfection and fish or chicken kadai are three of my favourite dishes. The flavours are so mouth watering, I can still taste them.
Also try the rice dishes, they too are very good.
Its a small restaurant, run by ex-tourism dept. employees. We were having made to order meals here and since we were having our daily grub morning and evening we got a healthy discount. It mostly served South Indian food and we had to inform them in advance if we wanted anything special such as exotic fishes or a different kind cuisine. This restaurent suited our budget just fine, so we hung on it during our 3 day stay in Kovalam. U will find a lot of hotel serving various cuisines, go find one that suits ur your taste!!!
Favorite Dish: South Indian Meals
There are many places to chose from with a wide range of prices! The fish dishes were so delicous! If you choose some of the restaurants that aren't right on the beach you will save a little bit of money as they seemed to charge more. But if money isn't a concern you will enjoy yourself!!
Favorite Dish: I don't even know the names of the stuff I was eating but it was delicous!
In the picture you can see the guys are fishing for the Lobster just right out in front of the rocks near the beach.
A mix of Indian and western food.
The concrete benches can leap out in front of you (well thats my story it was nothing to do with the cocktail I'd just drunk - see picture of me)
Favorite Dish: Chicken in a honey+mustard sauce
Qiute simply it was really tasty tender chicken
Perhaps the best in Decor on the beach. The restaurant is located at a height so try and get tables overlooking the beach. The interiors is done up in a very green manner with beautiful illuminated palms serving as props.
Favorite Dish: Fusion Cuisine
This is the Restaurant at the Jeevan Ayurvedic Beach Resort what makes it different from the others is that it has an open air terrace fringed by palms and with spectacular views of the beach and sea. Ideal for sunsets and dinner.
Favorite Dish: Go with the fresh Seafood.
Run by a Goan, Beatles is the closest place to a bar on the lighthouse beach. The place tends to play older rock music but it's popular with the toruists and the food is average.
The Beatles did vist Kovalam in the 1960's, but have no affiliation to the establishment.
Favorite Dish: Pizza and Beer.
Located on the Lighthouse Beach this restaurant is like many others in that it caters to western palettes.
Right at the entrance is a table with all the fresh catch of the day laid out for you to choose from. Choose what type of seafood (fish, crabs, mussels, shrimp etc), how you'd like it cooked (local curry / tandooried / steamed / grilled) grab a seat and enjoy the view.
Favorite Dish: Always look at the fish for a while and make sure you choose the freshest (even day old fish needs to be sold), this will make all the difference.
The Barracuda in curry and Shrimps grilled and basted with a Butter Garlic Sauce.
There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Kovalam. Most of them serving similar food though. In my opinion, they are overpriced (in local standards) and if you are craving for "real" Indian food, there are better places elsewhere.
The good news though is that fishes are almost always fresh since the day's catch is sold on the beach each day.
Serving everything under one roof, with the specialities being the baked goods. It also has good pizzas and lasagnes if your missing home.
Favorite Dish: Lasagne.
Finding the place can be a little adventure if you tend to stick close to the beach. The restaurant is between Spices and the Sumagali Hotels. Serves only veg food.
Favorite Dish: Dhal and Rice
