munnar is a BIG hotel trap.
i will tell u how and what it is and how to choose a hotel of ur choice.
before we went to munnar i happened to read a tip advising against staying at a particular hotel since it was too far away from munnar town and completely isolated.this tip alerted me.
since it was off season we decided to see some hotels locally before we took the plunge literally!!!
ALWAYS STAY IN A HOTEL LOCATED IN MUNNAR TOWN OR MAYBE IN ITS VICINITY!!!!!!
hotels in munnar are located in 4 clusters
1 in munnar town
2 chinnakanal road (club mahindra, chancellor,cloud 9,etc)
3 located near top station (autumn trees etc)
4 near munnar(oakfields,blackberry,abad copper castle)
now how the hotels trap you.
lush green tea estates dew and mists cascading waterfalls salubrious climate. such fancy words are used to lure the tourist to the resorts not located in munnar town. once you book into their hotels you are trapped unless you have your own vehicle.it takes atleast 45 mins to 1 hour for a person to get to munnar town. and they charge a bomb for a hotel vehicle.also if you dont book a MAP/AP plan you rae forced to eat intheir restaurants which are exorbitantly costly.
hotels out of munnar are extremely isolated maybe in tourist season they may be full but even in midseason you may end up in a ghost hotel.if you try to reach the hotels located at top station road it will be dark by the time you reach and there is not a soul on the roads who will be able to guide you to that elusive signage that shows you where that resort is located in thick fog.
hotels located near munnar like oakfields blackberry and abad copper castle are located on steep terrain and will not be suitable for middle aged unfit and elderly tourists.
regarding the views you get it all once you go for sightseeing and even munnar town hotels afford good surrounding views.
Unique Suggestions: see your group if you have children and senior citizens better to stay in munnar town.
if you are a honeymooner and want absolute privacy near munnar and outside munnar hotels are ok.but please ensure that you book a MAP plan and have your own hired vehicle.
always initially book for 2 nights 3 days and extend prorata if you are satisfied with hotel services.
Fun Alternatives: best alternative is to stay in munnar town where sightseeing locations are equidistant.you have a plethora of hotels and restaurants to choose from.and shopping and small shops open till late in night and street food is available
