This small, affordable and delightfully creative restaurant is located at the Munnar main bazar. You will find most the regualr Kerala food dishes like Parotta, beef dishes, and biriyani, but the thing to savour and delite your taste buds are the eclectic international dishe spread. It is amazing cheap, hygienic and you can even design your meal...more
My experience, as part of a tour group, accomodated in a hotel away from the town, was that there wasn't much to do! Ours was a dry hotel too. and the Tvs in our rooms weren't working! Luckily, I had a book, post cards to write!
We were only there for the one night. If I'd been there longer, I would have wanted to venture out into the town, although in our brief visit I didn't spot any restaurants/bars..they might have been there, but they eluded me!
So a chance to catch up on reading/postcard writing etc, then an early night to catch up on sleep!

I checked the map and we have a clear route for Thekkady and Munnar. But is it possible for me use the Munnar-Kodaikanal road by motor cycle. Is it safe? What is the lodging cost in...more
The Nilavilakku is integral to all the rituals and ceremonies in a Keralite's life. As dusk creeps in, young girls of the family bring the lighted lamps (nilavilakku) to the verandah of the house. In the flickering light of the nilavilakku she is joined by the children and elders of the family, especially the grandparents, in chanting hymns and...more

Munnar has got beautiful curvy roads, and especially the Adimali - Neriamangalam Forest Road. but it can get dangerous, especially if you are going there for the first time, or if you are a learning driver. In the Adimali - Neriamangalam road there are no Street Lights, and the road can be covered with Fog, which will completely blind your vision,...more
mist and fog in the nilgiri ranges is treacherous, and combine this with dangerous high altitude roads without embankments makes a perfect situation for a thriller.it takes about 4 hours to reach munner from kochi do not waste your time taking too many coffee or tea breaks. after 4 in the evening thick fog starts to envelope the hills and you may...more
Some hotels may be 'dry', or not sell alcohol during the many festival days.If you like a nightcap, either bring your favourite brands in duty free, (from Bahrain etc) or buy cheaply at the government run liquor store in Munnar - mainly local spirits and beers( please see my Munnar shopping tip- clandestine shopping!)more
munnar is a BIG hotel trap.
i will tell u how and what it is and how to choose a hotel of ur choice.
before we went to munnar i happened to read a tip advising against staying at a particular hotel since it was too far away from munnar town and completely isolated.this tip alerted me.
since it was off season we decided to see some hotels locally before we took the plunge literally!!!
ALWAYS STAY IN A HOTEL LOCATED IN MUNNAR TOWN OR MAYBE IN ITS VICINITY!!!!!!
hotels in munnar are located in 4 clusters
1 in munnar town
2 chinnakanal road (club mahindra, chancellor,cloud 9,etc)
3 located near top station (autumn trees etc)
4 near munnar(oakfields,blackberry,abad copper castle)
now how the hotels trap you.
lush green tea estates dew and mists cascading waterfalls salubrious climate. such fancy words are used to lure the tourist to the resorts not located in munnar town. once you book into their hotels you are trapped unless you have your own vehicle.it takes atleast 45 mins to 1 hour for a person to get to munnar town. and they charge a bomb for a hotel vehicle.also if you dont book a MAP/AP plan you rae forced to eat intheir restaurants which are exorbitantly costly.
hotels out of munnar are extremely isolated maybe in tourist season they may be full but even in midseason you may end up in a ghost hotel.if you try to reach the hotels located at top station road it will be dark by the time you reach and there is not a soul on the roads who will be able to guide you to that elusive signage that shows you where that resort is located in thick fog.
hotels located near munnar like oakfields blackberry and abad copper castle are located on steep terrain and will not be suitable for middle aged unfit and elderly tourists.
regarding the views you get it all once you go for sightseeing and even munnar town hotels afford good surrounding views.
Unique Suggestions: see your group if you have children and senior citizens better to stay in munnar town.
if you are a honeymooner and want absolute privacy near munnar and outside munnar hotels are ok.but please ensure that you book a MAP plan and have your own hired vehicle.
always initially book for 2 nights 3 days and extend prorata if you are satisfied with hotel services.
Fun Alternatives: best alternative is to stay in munnar town where sightseeing locations are equidistant.you have a plethora of hotels and restaurants to choose from.and shopping and small shops open till late in night and street food is available
It is always better to travel light, If you plan to do excessive shopping, you can take a big bag with you. There are no branded stores in munnar where you can buy good quality shopping bags. Blue jeans, or cargo's will be good. You can take warm cotton or woolen clothes with you, A muffler will be helpful, especially if you are not usually...more

The Munnar region is full of tea estates covering the hills and valleys, which border the main roads leading to various tourist destination. These tea estates have several pathways running through the rows of tea bushes to enable the tea pluckers to do their job.
