Like any other places, the beaches of Kovalam have their own tourist souvenir shops. Most of them will sell you local arts and crafts that go from paintings, shellware, sandalwood figures, and a lots of other tempting stuff that you would surely buy to take back home as personal memorobilia of your trip or gifts for family and friends. Check prices at different place before you decide your buy and practice bargaining as in many other parts of the world.

Fort Cochin: Books and books everywhere

by JuanGaitan Written Mar 27, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Shopping .... in Kerala?

Not only books. Is the paradise for handycrafts with an excellent quality, rose wood handicrafts, silk clothing, amazing antiques, ....

Well, but going back to the book shop you can find a few of them around Fort Cochin with books with a very good quality. Tons of international best sellers, and great books about India, with beautiful pictures, luxury editions, books about Budhism and Induism, yoga, ayurvedic massage, tantra and Kama Sutra.

And my biggest satisfaction, there I was in the middle of Fort Cochin and in the main entrance of the shop, bum !!! an edition of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' 100 years of solitude, the Colombian genie.

Books, heavy loaded but is worth.

What to buy: Everything. I'm not a shopping junkie but I gotta confess that I bought tons of handicrafts, indian shirts and books.

What to pay: Don't carry much money, you'll spend it, for sure !!
