Natana Kairali Performing Centre for arts

by Justin_goa

Conceived with the idea of preserving and popularizing the various traditional art forms of Kerala that were on the verge of decline, the Natana Kairali Research & Performing Centre for Traditional Arts was set up in Thrissur by Gopal Venu. Over the years, this cultural center of Kerala has contributed immensely to the growth and development of diverse art forms that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the land. It is indeed commendable that a lot of research work has been undertaken along with providing training to the young art students at the Natana Kairali Research & Performing Centre for Traditional Arts, Thrissur. This helps the students to know more about the traditional art forms of Kerala. The teachers themselves put up performances to enable these youngsters with potential to learn better. Workshops are also organized for their benefit. The personal level of interaction that...

Kerala Kalamandalam, cradle of arts..

by Justin_goa

The celebrated Malayalam poet Vallathol Narayana Menon established The Kerala Kalamandalam. It was the time when Kathakali was steadily losing its popularity. The great poet was quick to realize the need of keeping the dance form of Kathakali alive. So, the poet took the onus on himself to revive and popularize this form of art. In his efforts, poet Vallathol got the help of some royal Kathakali enthusiasts like Kunjikuttan Thampuran and M. Mukundaraja. These people took great pains to arrange for performances by renowned artists throughout the State and even successfully raised finances through lotteries. Since then, Kerala Kalamandalam at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur District has been imparting training in its own signature style for Kathakali, Kootiyattam, Mohiniyattom, Panchavadyam, Thullal and others, by way of the ancient system of gurukula. Kerala Kalamandalam and its neighboring...

Backwaters of Kerala

by Justin_goa

The backwaters of Kerela is a unique product of Kerala and is found nowhere else in the world. Backwaters are a network of lakes, canals and estuaries and deltas of forty-four rivers that drain into the Arabian sea. The backwaters of Kerela are a self supporting eco-system teeming with aquatic life. The canals connect the villages together and are still used for local transport. Over 900 km of this labyrinthine water world is navigable The largest backwater stretch in Kerela is the Vembanad Lake which flows through three districts and opens out into the sea at the Kochi Port. The Astamudi lake, literarlly having eight arms, which covers a major portion of Kollam district in the south, is the second largest and is considered the gateway to the backwaters. The most exciting thing on the backwaters of Kerela, however, is the kettuvallom ( traditional houseboat ) which has become the most...

Varkala beach

by mantru

Most travellers spend some time at the popular Kovalam beach, south of Thiruvanathapuram.Varkala, north of the state's capital, is less easily reachable, but always worth that extra effort. High red rocks, coconut trees, unspoiled sea with good waves, retaurants, one holy hindubeach and that is the wonderful sight of the Arabian Sea coastline.
