set on the picturesque hill of sivagiri is the sharada temple and sivagiri mutt founded by social reformer sri narayana guru(1856-1928). the mutt also has his "samadhi" or the final resting place.the mutt also houses the headquarters of 'Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham'
The Mutt is also the headquarter of the 'Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham', a religious organisation established by the Guru to propagate his concept of 'One Caste, One Religion, One God'
yearly " the sivagiri pilgrimage" is conducted between 30 dec and jan1. this is marked by festivities
Colourful processions, debates and seminars, public meetings, cultural shows, community feasts, group wedding, rituals all mark the celebrations in Sivagiri hills.
however i would recommend visiting the mutt when there are no festivities. the kind of peace you can experience is amazing especially recommnded in early morning hours and early evening hours to experience the sights and sounds that accompany with every rising and setting day.
especially a walk from varkala to sivagiri mutt starting early morning is beautiful
