Favorite thing: As Orchha is a small village in the middle of nowhere, the modern broadband internet connections haven't arrived yet. What you'll find are plenty of places but the connection speed is dead slow at just 33.6kbps so you'll be wasting your time and your money. It's a much better option to use the internet in Khajuraho.

Favorite thing: This rather faded map is on the front wall of the Ram Raja Temple. It shows a map of the villages attractions but it was a bit difficult to navigate on the map as north was pointed towards the east so I had to tilt my head to get my bearings based on my small map in Lonely Planet.

Favorite thing: The small main street of Orchha is lined with tiny shops ranging anything from barbers to gift stores to travel companies. There are also numerous small guesthouses. Really you can cover the whole little village in not much more than half an hour.

Favorite thing: Remarkably in Orchha you are allowed to roam freely around the palaces and ruins in the town. No one bothers you or is directing you which is very pleasant. A few children play inside the buildings and courtyards presumably while their parents work on the repairs.

Favorite thing: One thing you see a lot of around the countryside and small towns of India is the women working as hard as the men. You will see them with baskets of building debris or soil balanced on their heads from construction or repair sites.

Favorite thing: Amazingly, after all the towns and cities I traveled through with all the hassling of locals to buy things, this wonderful little place just went about its business and left us alone. It was a welcomed change.

Favorite thing: While there are locals milling around trying to sell some stuff in Orchha, its not that in your face rabid kinda hawking that you see at most of the tourist stops in India....

Favorite thing: September could be a good season to visit Orchha and Khajuraho. Monsoon would have bid farewell by that time and there would be a lot of greenary everywhere. Good for photography.

Favorite thing: Orchha appears from the middle of nowhere and apart from the fort palaces and chhatris and ruins scattered around the landscape, this really small town is just made up of a few quiet streets.
