Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Very comfortable walking shoes... touring the caves will feel like walking a hiking trail.
A hat to shield you from the sun.
Light clothing as it gets quite hot in Ajanta.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Tissues and disinfecting wipes in case you have to use the toilets.
Sun block for those sensitive to the sun.
Photo Equipment: A camera stand if you wish to take sharp photos of the dark interiors, but note that the use of a flash is strictly forbidden (it makes the murals fade).
Miscellaneous: Plenty of chilled drinking water and a packed lunch or snacks, such as nuts or dried fruit.
If you are interested in the details, then research the caves in advance. Most guidebooks do no explain the significance of each cave and its artwork in the greatest detail.
A small torch (flashlight) may be useful for a better look at the details of the dark cave interiors.
