Bombay - My Hovel'N'Highrise Home Town

Favorite thing: Bombay's beaches are very special for me. I grew up on the beaches of Juhu and Versova and will always carry the fondest memories of them with me. They line the Arabian Sea (Indian Ocean), the sand is soft though itchy, the breeze is cool though noisy, the beach is long though crowded, this is Bombay in it's element.

Fondest memory: The Cool Monsoon Breeze.

    Favorite thing: Elephanta Caves.
45 minutes ride by boat to a small island will take you to elephanta caves.
The idols have been carved out of solid rocks in caves.
A cool morning trip can revive your nerves.
The elephanta caves has the famous idol called trimurty (three faced) , you must have seen it on the coins of Indian currency.
There are monkeys on the Island, though nothing to worry about, for now the places has cafetarias serving cooldrinks , local refreshments and bottled water. There is a small fee for entrance to this site.
Boats ply between Gateway of India and Elephanta caves from morning to evening.
Best time to visit if September to January.

Fondest memory: People are always in a hurry to complete their unfinished task, but still they are helpful in ways you may be amazed. People will offer physical, moral and even financial help. The goodness in a mumbaity may be slow to come out , but it would never die.
The best part is people help strangers and then keep walking without expecting a thank you.
People from all walks of live simply merge in the crowd, you would not differntiate a millonaire from a pauper walking side by side rubbing shoulders in this financial capital of India, where the daily turnover is in billions.

    Give yourself plenty of time...

Favorite thing: Give yourself plenty of time and not try to rush through things. The charm of Bombay, lies not in the simpler things like sitting on the rocks by the sea and watching the sun set.

Speak to the locals and try...

Favorite thing: Speak to the locals and try and live a day like people in Bombay do. Go to a college campus, see a movie or go to the beach.
