The central green, the old Cotton Green where traders used to buy and sell bales of cotton, was laid out as a public garden in 1869. It was originally called Elphinstone Circle but was renamed after independence in honour of Benjamin Guy Horniman, an English journalist of The Bombay Chronicle who, through his editorial, strongly supported the Indian freedom struggle. The gardens are very peaceful despite being in the middle of one of the largest city's in the world. The elegant buildings around the garden were built in the 1860's and fashioned after acclaimed English examples at Bath Crescent and Tunbridge Wells.

The Oval Maidan is a large recreational ground, measuring 22 acres, located in the Fort area of the city centre running down the side of the High Court and Bombay University buildings. It is a popular recreation ground with mostly cricket and football being played. Take a minute to watch a game whilst touring around.

The Hanging Gardens, which are also known as Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens after a famous barrister, are located just above Kamala Nehru Park at the top of Malabar Hill. These gardens were laid out in 1881 over Bombay's main reservoir. Some people claim that these gardens were laid to prevent the water from getting contaminated by the activity of the nearby Parsi Towers of Silence. These gardens are terraced and a unique feature of the garden is that the hedges are cut into different animal shapes.

This is nice small park at the top of Malabar Hill which overlooks Chowpatty Beach. It covers an area of 4,000 sq yards (3,300 m²) and was named after the wife of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The park is really designed for children with a few climbing sculptures.

Built in tiers atop the Malabar Hill Reservoir (some say to protect the water supply from debris scattered from the nearby Parsi Towers of Silence, a site where Zoroasterian dead are, according to their custom, left out for vultures) - therein lying the meaning of ‘Hanging Gardens’ - the Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens are an extremely popular meeting and picnicking spot for locals in a city starved for open, green spaces. There is a viewpoint from where you can look across the Back Bay towards the Fort and the heart of South Mumbai which could be very impressive on that rare clear day. It was more depressing when I visited with horrific smog minimizing the grandeur.

Bang Opposite Colaba Bus Depot lies this beautiful & huge Bombay Port trust garden. It has a very big walk way. Plus there are sea side sit outs. Also lots of open places on the grass to sit & benches also. There are lots for trees & plants in the park & all of them are with a sign board to identify the same. In addition there is a glass house. A small hillock has been made which can be climbed easily, which gives good view of the park from the top. Very near from Colaba Market & lots of buses available from VT station. Entry Fee is Rs. 2/-. Approx park timings Morning 8 to 1o & evening 4 to 9.

Take an evening stroll in the famous jogging park, located in the heart of the Bandra suburb. Beautifully designed, has a small pond with ducks and fishes. Very scenic as it is built on land reclaimed from the sea.
If you are lucky, you may spot a famous Bollywood film star.

On the top of Malabar Hill the Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, named the Hanging Gardens, and the Kamala Nehru Park with its relaxing, greenery atmosphere like the people sitting or taking a rest here wittness.
The gardens look south from Malabar Hill towards Colaba and are built over reservoirs of waters.
I would suggest to reach them by a four wheels mean of transport and then walk the way down.
