Mainland China: Mainland China - Decent fare
Malavika profile photo
Malavika 8 reviews

Mainland China offers Chinese cuisine in a pleasant setting.

The Sunday buffet with unlimted beer does attract a large crowd - the best part is fresh hot spring rolls brought to your table. They were not too oily and the skin was not too thick.
There is large sampling of entrees to choose from - but then again standard buffet fare.
From the A la Carte - avoid the crackling spinach - burnt and bitter
Stay with the chicken dishes and fried rice.

Service is availabe but he wait staff may not be too knowledgeable or suggest alternatives

German bakery

German bakery is one of Pune's well known landmarks.
Its just down the road from Osho (Rajnish) ashram, and its quite a common sight to see lots of men and women (mostly foreign), wearing maroon robes, and milling around there...
They serve a good assortment of stuff- from cakes and pastas to coffee and some interesting kinds of tea... pancakes are quite popular too.

Just behind the bakery are some interesting shops- from `western union money transfer' to one upstaris, which sells some pretty psychedelic stuff

Kayani Bakery: Bakery stuff

Shrewsberry Biscuits from Kayani bakery in Pune, is one thing i`d often heard about, sometimes tasted, and always wanted to buy them by the truckloads!

.

Favorite Dish: I got a bag-full packed. Shrewsberry, Brazilnut, and Khatai. One kilogram each.
I`d also heard of the Khare (salty) biscuits, but i think they`d run out of those by the end of the day.

The cakes are supposed to be pretty good too.

Rs 120/ kg for the Shrewsberry i think.

Just incase you didnt have time to visit the bakery to pick them up - the Pune airport departure terminal has a little snack shop, which stocks boxes of Shrewsberry biscuits.

German Bakery is situated near the Osho's Ashram in Koregaon.

All the devotees from Osho used to come here and you can find here German, Italian, Chinese and more foods.

I met with some peoples there from Singapore and they told that this place is an heaven for us. Some students are also used to go there for fast food.

Favorite Dish: My favourite one was Italian Pizza

Well I havent tried this one in Pune , but it is one of my fav 's in bombay . They have the best variety of seafood , from crabs to local caviar , squid , etc. Try his kane , bombay duck , butter pepper garlic prawns and malvani gassi ( a maharastran curry ) to be eaten with neer dosa ( really soft rice dosa , pancake ) or idi appam ( a hybrid idli cum dosa)

Favorite Dish: Crabs in butter pepper garlic
