When you visit Shillong, or for that matter, most of the capitals of the North-East, you come to enjoy verdant beauty during daylight, an experience you may not get easily in a busy metro. The rolling hills, the soughing of the pine trees, the different hues of green, the 'almost' clean air, the easy, laid-back, unhurried pace of life, the scenic beauty, the natural charm - these are the items to enjoy and savour.
Dress Code: Comfortable clothes.

There are a few good bars and dancing spots in Shillong town mostly in good star hotels like Cloud 9 at Center Point hotel, Hotel Polo Towers, Hotel Majestic. But during the time we visited ( In the 1st week of March'2010) a govt regulation( local administration) has stopped them to operate this till late night as there have been many drunken brawls among the visitors, which ended in murder.
It is recommended that the tourists stay out of these places and don't involve involve yourself in any of these brawls. Even if you are not willing you may be sucked in to.

There is limited or no night life for a tourist visiting Shillong. Except for the Sat night dancing at yr hotel. Also, it is quite unadvisable to go out late at night even in a car as there are lots of unwanted elements waiting to loot / harass you.
