If your ever in the state of Punjab in India you must visit the holy sikh city of Amritsar. It holds the most treasured temple of the sikhs. Its beautiful and full of history. You can stay within the temple complex for about £10 a night. The Golden Temple as its known is open 24/7. If you visit in April you could see the celebration of Vaisakhi which takes place all over punjab but the experience in the Golden Temple is alot better.
The Temples provide an insight into the Sikh religion and the generosity of the people. Of particluar interest is the Golden Temple in Amritsar but there are many others where you will be welcomed with open arms.
In amritsar, I would definately recommend the Golden temple. Going there and not seein the temple is stupidity.Also, you can go 30kms ahead and see the border between India and Pakistan.Also, there are historical places to visit in Amritsar.
