I know that it's not considered a real "sexy" choice among you seasoned travelers, but... Bharatpur really isn't a place with a lot of restaurant choices. So, we took our meals in the dining room at our hotel, the Laxmi Vilas. My understanding from chatting around is that dining at different hotel restaurants is "kind of" the best choices to make in the area.
So, that being said, I will tell you that the food and service at the Laxmi Vilas is pretty good. Not outstanding or stellar, but... tasty fresh food, good food sanitation and hygiene, and a comfortable dining room.
For every meal, there is a buffet choice - a nod to the tour groups that do frequent the Laxmi Vilas. Generally, the buffets are pretty good, and we did them about half the time. If there happens to be a Russian tour group there, you might want to get some of that mango souffle before it's swept beyond the Caucasus. Just kidding, don't mean to stereotype anyone, let's just say this group of Russians had a healthy appetite.
If you want to move beyond the buffet, there are a variety of Indian specialities, both meatless and meat dishes. There are also more continental items, including a selection of soups and sandwichs. Again, nothing to shake Zagat's Guide to their core, but definitely good, safe food.
Favorite Dish: I had a chicken tikka dish for lunch one afternoon that was especially good.

Try the local food! at almost very corner you'll find street vendors and nice small restaurants. I have never had any problems with eating from the street vendors. It is a real adventure and you'll taste the most intersting and strange spices.
