The desert safari scene in Bikaner is dominated by bigger operators offering a cut price product. They employ touts who are everywhere, and whose job it is to channel you into the operator's safaris. Go along with it if you must, but don't kid yourself that you are seeing anything meaningful and be aware that you are almost certainly contributing to damaging the delicate desert environment.
Fun Alternatives: A better way is to shop around carefully before you undertake a desert safari. There are small specialist operators offering eco-friendly trips into the desert that focus on wildlife, the desert peoples, birdwatching...or whatever interests you.
