In and around Bikaner, the ubiquitous Auto-Ricksahw is the easiest way to get around. They are cheap and plentiful. Make sure that the driver understands exactly where you wish to go to, and negotiate a price before setting off.
Rail:
Jaipur and Jodhpur have a rail connection to Bikaner. From Delhi, the Bikaner Express and Chetak Express are the main trains to Bikaner. There is also I believe a connection from Mumbai.
Buses:
are also available from major cities but the distance and not too great roads do not offer a very comfortable ride..
Car:
We hired a car to get to Bikaner. The driver was good, and the roads at the time not too bad.
Try NOT to drive at night- there are too many dangers such as animals and wild drivers on the roads. Cost is about R2000 -R2500, and the scenery is interesting. There are places to stop along the way, with Dhabas(chai shops) and toilet facilities

There are frequent express buses between Bikaneer and Jasailmer, Jaipur and other towns in Rajasthan. Have your guesthouse arrange your tickets for a small commision. It's definately worth it. The bus stand is Near the Lalgarh Palace Hotel in the central part of town.
Jasailmer to Bikaner should cost about 120 Rs and take 6-7 hours
Bikaner to Jaipur is about 80 Rs and takes 6-7 hours
Bikaner to Jodhpur is about 80 Rs and takes 6-7 hours

Rickshaws are the most convinient way to get around in places in India. The traffic is chaotic, but there is always enough space between two cars for a Rickshaw and they get through nearly every alley. Plus the open air style cools you down pretty well in the summer heat.
BUT you have to bargain hard for good prices - because they love to milk the tourist cashcows ;-)

Bikaner is a a 10h busride from Delhi right in the Thar desert. Due to renovations of the railwaytracks (from summer 2006 to .....?) there was only the bus as a reasonable way of transportation. The bus leaves from Serai Khale Khan bus adda.
