This amazing old lady has been selling postcards outside the fort for most of her life. She says that she is 100 years old! Her son is a guide at the fort. She has a wonderful memory, and told us the whole history of the fort, in good English. She was very dignified.
If you see her- please buy a postcard or two!!

Jauhar, a ritual of mass suicide by immolation, was practiced at Chittaurgarh Fort at least twice (in 1303 and later in 1535). Rani Padhmini led 13,000 women to death, escaping dishonour by the invading army of the Sultan Alauddin.
Later, several thousand women under Rani Karanavati, facing attack by the Shah of Gujarat, followed the same path.
