Favorite thing: It might be worth hiring a guide at the Fatehpur Sikri Palace complex. This is a fairly large complex having several exquisite monuments, including a number of palaces, courtyards, halls and mosques.
Every monument has a legend associated with it and most of these guides have a flair for telling stories. They also do a good job of explaining the history, architecture and the symbolism associated with these monuments :) I would hire a guide just for the stories though :) ... some of these guys can really take you back to the times of Emperor Akbar :)
Licensed guides are available just outside the main ticket counter at the Palace complex.
Do not hire the ones that haunt the religious complex just outside the Buland Darwaza. Most of these guys are just touts doubling up as guides.

Favorite thing: If there is one thing you have to learn as quick as possible is this: Bargain! Regaurding whatever, from stuff, to food, to drinks to also the Guesthouses. When somebody is asking 100, you gotta pay not more then 30!
There are only few items that has a fix prices, like BIRI, which costs 5Rs!!!
Reguarding tghe GH you should not ask for the 30% of the inquiry, but for sure go down to the first price called by the owner.

Favorite thing: Fatehpur Sikri is a fortified city built by King Akbar. He had three wives, a Hindu, a Muslim and a Christian. The beautiful architectures in Fatehpur Sikri reflects the fusion of the religions.
Although Fatehpur Sikhri is a witness to climax of Munghal Empire, the city was abandoned due to lack of water supply.
Despite its proximity to Agra, Fatehpur Sikhri is less visited. There are two parts to this place. One is the royal complex where visitors must pay entrance fee. The other is mosque where everyone can enter for free.
Fondest memory: Lattice of marble screens. Beautifully carved red sand stone.

Favorite thing: This abandoned city contains some magnificent examples of architecture. The local guide pointed out examples of varied religious motifs ~ Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist and Christian. Apparently, Akbar had three wives, each one from a different faith.
Fondest memory: Although there are a number of salesmen outside the gates to the royal and religious sections of the city, inside it is quiet and peaceful. There were a minimum of tourists and the views out over the city are so commanding you can imagine what an amazing capital the city would have made. . .if it hadn't run dry.

Favorite thing: Fatehpur Sikri is where the Bollywood film "Pardes" was filmed. If you have seen the film, you can probably recollect the fighting scene from the end.
