On the street, Jaipur
Hooray for Bollywood
No visit to India would be complete without seeing a Bollywood movie and one of the best places in all Asia is the Raj Mandir cinema in Jaipur. Famous for its grand entrance foyer and theatre like a giant meringue, the Raj Mandir captures the splendour of a bygone age of cinema, long before multiplexes in shopping malls.
It's huge, with 1,237 seats divided into 5 different classes, each names after a Gem stone. Don't go for the cheapest seats unless you want to sit very, very close to the screen!
Bollywood movies are in Hindi, but the plots are easy to follow and there is always action, romance and comedy mixed in with several elaborate song and dance numbers. Typically, a Bolllywood movie is about 3 hours long, with an interval at half time. The Raj Mandir sells drinks and popcorm in the foyer and make sure you check out how the lighting changes at half time.
Thera are 4 screenings each day at 12.00Am, 3.00 pm, 6.00 pm and the most popular at 9 pm. Tickets can be purchased 30 minutes before each screening and there is a special (much shorter) queue for the ladies.

Jaipur is very lively at night. You should see it, but do stay in the main streets. Getting lost in the dark is easy and not funny. You can visit the midnight markets, go to a teahouse or visit the large cinema, outside the old city. Also danceshows and concerts are given in Jaipur.
