The Maharaja of Jaipur holds control over the City Palace, but has been required for political and cultural reasons to open up most of it to the public. However, there are parts of the City Palace that are still habitable and lived in part of the year by the family. The Guarded Entrance, the Peacock Doorway, the Bronze Door are all on the edge of the personal palace, which are still accessible by tourists.

Jaipur has a still existing Maharaja, who is said to be extremely rich.

Most of the Maharaja Palace is a museum now. This huge silver pots were used, when one of the former Maharajas was invited to England to see the Empress Victoria. He could not go without the water of the Ganges River. Several of this pots are standing in special room.

Was so busy taking pictures of the others that I am not in any. The very hospitable Maharaja gave a great tea for us and later joined us at a party we had at one of his former palaces on the outskirts of Jaipur.

The Chandra Mahal Palace is still occupied by the royal family but visitors can visit the ground floor where some exhibits are on display. However the visit here is worthwhile for the exquisite Peacock in the courtyard outside.
