Mehran terrace (at the fort): Shame about the food

by jasonlycett Written Jan 13, 2006

The restaurant has the best location in town, an awesome location perched on top of Merangarh fort, looking over the city. Candlelit, romantic, how could it fail?

The food and service, thats how. Appalling service, they can't speak Indian let alone english, they loose your order, they serve the last guests first. Then the food arrives. AVoid at all costs the chicken dish, instant Delhi belly, however the vegetarian platter (Thali) was nothing more than cold railway food, just awful, what a shame!

we heard people have complained before us and been very sick on the food. Don't bother!

Favorite Dish: an empty one, it goes down hill when they put food on it

The Pillars: An Oasis in the Desert

The Umaid Bhavan Palace is a neat stop if you have a few days in Jodhpur, but the best part of the visit has to be the patio leading out of its restaurant, The Pillars.

There is a cover charge to have a drink, but we ended up staying and ordering food to celebrate my friend's birthday. Once the bill came, the cover charge had disappeared.

The food was excellent; after three weeks in India, I had "western" food for the first time ~ a delicious pasta dish. More importantly though, the service was excellent and we never felt rushed. The view from the patio is gorgeous and there are peacocks wandering the lawn. We stayed and watched the sun set over the desert and truly felt like we were in the lap of luxury, for a fraction of what a similar evening would cost at home.

Oh, we also saw Salman Rushie at dinner ~ there with his bride-to-be, who looked young enough to be his daughter!

Beautiful terrace that is overlooked by the imposing Mehrangarh Fort. Polite and attentive service and great fine dining cuisine.

Palace Hotel: Try eating at the Chhittar Palace

by bradbeaman Updated Nov 3, 2004

Since this Palace is near the airport you can plan a meal or at least have tea here before you catch your flight out of Jodhpur.

Favorite Dish: We had the Chicken Tikka.
