    To get some idea as to how big the palace is, there's this equally large model displayed in the main hall of the museum. Wonder if it took the model maker 15 years to complete as well!

    In the grounds of the Jaswant Thada are the cenotaphs of other rulers and members of the royal family. Earlier rulers have their memorials at the former capital at Mandore, 9km to the north.

    Mehrangarh Fort - Chamundi Devi Temple

    Mehrangarh Fort - Ramparts & Cannon

    After visiting the museum you get the chance to walk along the huge ramparts past cannon upon cannon. There must be a good few dozen of them that vary in size and shape.

    Mehrangarh Fort - Chokelao Palace

    The Chokelao Palace is located near the gardens of the fort which lie to the west. It was once a pleasure palace built around a sunken garden.

    Mehrangarh Fort - Views from the fort

    As the fort is some 125m (410ft) high, it commands a dominating presence over the city of Jodhpur. The view over the blue city of spectacular and you can really see why it was called the Blue City.

    If you don't have the time to explore the fort (as we did), go to the roof top of Haveli Guest House. In the Jharokha Restaurant you can enjoy a cold drink and you have a very nice view to the Fort.

    The Jaswant Thada is a beautiful white marble Maharaja memorial that can be seen from the top of the fort.

    Aside from shopping there are also the market stalls selling fresh fruit and Indian bread to nuts and all kinds of wonderful spices. All fresh and tempting.

    The Clock Tower

    The clock tower is an imposing structure and a popular landmark in the old city and can even be seen from the Mehrangarh Fort. The clock tower was built in 1912.

    There is an excellent view of the city from here. Looking down from the ramparts, there is a sheer drop of 37m. A large wooden wheel is at one end which used to help bring the water up to the fort.
