I took the Shimla - Kalka toy train. I booked online from own country to make sure that I got the seat since this train is always fully booked. The train leaves on time. It was slow, but the view, as many had said, was awesome. Really worth the time spent.
If you have some time to spare, then take a slow toy train up to Shimla. There is nothing much to do, but the experience of chugging up the hills, past little hamlets and terraced fields, making your way through tunnels and over breathtaking bridges. Its leisurely pace offers you a panoramic view of changing landscapes, providing a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city life and tuning up your senses to experience what shimla has in store ahead.
The Toy Train covers 96km of tracks in six hours
Already on the first day when we arrived in Delhi we started to look for the train tickets and on the same evening we left to Shimla.
At first we had night journey till Kakla, but after we get on the "Toy train", which took us till Shimla.
Train is very small and cosy. It goes really slow, but the view is amazing and it is good changes after overcrowded and dirty Delhi.
We even got 2 meals during our journey! :)
