virtually any bazaar or street-stalls: Must buys in Rajasthan
by lynnehamman
There are just so many beautiful things to buy in Rajasthan. Amongst the many:Leather Goods (Bags and Shoes)Block Print fabrics in amazing colours and patternsBed-Covers & Cushion coversWall HangingsJewellry (Especially handcrafted silver)Miniature PaintingsReady made clothing (tops and trousers) with beautiful embroideryHand made paperMy favourite thing to stock up on is the silver jewellry. It is a fraction of the price, and wonderful quality of silver. The designs are unusual, bold and colourful. I now have quite a collection)
Offer half the asking price- then bargain hard. A beautiful silver ring would cost about R400.
Open Bazar: Shopping
by RAJASTHANBYCAR
It has something for almost every kind of traveler, revealing a vast range of arts and crafts, which is a treat for the visuals and are ready to be picked. The Bazaars spill with products and there is a magnificent glow of colours all over. Intricate work carved on handicrafts or the wonders of gems and stones, it has it all and even more like the colours dancing on the textiles and fabrics with silver or gold threads settings and complimented with the variety of designed by the age old families of skilled artisans.
Silk-threads, Beads, Gota, Zari, Zardosi, Banarasi, etc.
Just compare it to prices in your country. If it's significantly cheaper, then it's a good buy.

All over Jodhpur: Art & Crafts in Rajasthan
by phadke2001
With a profusion of kingdoms, art and craft prospered in Rajasthan under royal patronage. The alliance with the Mughals brought even more variety to an already rich repetoire and the artists were kept busy decorating the palaces of the kings and the nobles. With independance, the kingdoms were abolished and the artists could have sufferred but tourism came to the rescue. Today, every city in Rajasthan has galleries specialising in all kinds of arts and crafts. The state government has emporia under the name of Rajasthali where prices are fixed and reasonable but the shops are not particularly good either in selection or service. I would much rather go to private shops where they have a wide selection of stuff and are more than eager to show you all the wares (in the hope that you will buy something). Of the cities that I visited, Jodhpur seemed to be the most organised in this area....

Factory outlets for rugs, textiles, jewelry, etc.: Make the Factory Tour work for you
by cyndayco
At least once during your trip to India, I guarantee that you will find yourself in a factory outlet. Maybe it's by choice. Maybe not. If they're selling high-ticket items, they'll offer you a drink. Don't ask for tea or coffee. Ask for bottled water. For sure, they'll give you a 1 liter unopened bottle of water. That way, even if you don't buy anything, you walk away with a free bottle of water. With any luck, you may amass enough so you won't need to buy bottled water for the rest of your trip.
Rugs look like a good buy--if there's space in your luggage. I wouldn't trust any offers of shipping. Moreover, buy only what they make in the factory; they'll offer it to you at near cost price. For example, if it's a rug factory and you see one that you like, it will be probably be reasonably priced. Anything else on display--clothes, bags, beddings--may have been sourced from another...
