Gemstones Bazaar

by Durfun

This is a place in Jaipur where loads of jewellers are huddled together. They indeed sell a very wide variety of gemstones, both precious and semi-precious. But the thing to bear in mind is you always must haggle.Do not be tempted into entering shanty stalls, where the goods could be imitations or fake stones. To purchase stones, go to stores with government certification of authenticity. They are pricier, but at least you can be assured you're buying the genuine thing. Go to stalls etc, just to look at the range of articles, traditional stuff on sale. But be polite yet firm when traders try to hassle you into buying.

When you travel in Rajasthan be careful of Touts they are standing Major tourist place or out side the Hotels they ask your name/country and talk in your own language or offer you Meal/Drink/Smoke/Shopping etc. Don't belive them learn a few words of Hindi and a lot of people might think you have been living here for a while and hence you are familiar with the place wear Indian Dress. Make sure you are on the right Hotel

by darthmilmo

I arrived into Jodhpur and ask the auto rickshaw driver to take me to Cozy G.H. (formerly known a Joshi's Blue House). I arrived there and ask them if this is the right place. The lady of the house said it was. So I settle in and ordered some lunch. It wasn't until after lunch that I realize I?m not in the right place. I'm in the "Blue House G.H.," located right in the middle of the bazar. At this point I?m boiling mad for they had told me this was Cozy's GH. Argh! I paid for my lunch and stormed out. Eventually, I reached the right place, located far from the bazar on a neighborhood filled with the infamous blue-houses. This kind owner opened up her door and gave me a nice room with a window.

Fake priest and ceremonies at Pushkar Ghats

by darthmilmo

A peaceful visit to the Ghats of Pushkar will typically be interrupted by a man pretending to be a Panda (priest). As I visited one Ghat a Panda motioned me to follow him so he could perform a ritual ceremony for me. It was nice and interesting, but lacked the true spirituality of the affair. Truthfully, I knew he was just an actor. Originally, it was intended as a ceremony in honor of the death family members. Today it is more of a required passport for visitors of Pushkar. At the end, he demanded 500 INR, but I knew better so I gave him only 20 INR for his troubles.
