    There are many art schools in Udaipur that keep the silk painting craft from the Mewar empire alive. They will demonstrate the craft showing the paints, fine brushes made from squirrel tail and the gold sheets used. It is part of the selling scheme and sometimes they will ask you to see their shop when really they are a tout paid to bring in customers. Of course everyone needs at least one painting.

It is time for young girls to dress up in their finery and pray for grooms of their choice while the married women pray for the well-being of their husbands. This 18-day festival is laced with various activities and culminates in a grand procession marking the arrival of Shiva to escort his bride home
