We reached Gangtok by afternoon and got very late for Lunch. We decided to head to M G Market as soon as we checked in. Were pleasently surprised when we reached there from all the gullies and taxi stands.
The place looked like you are not in India, cleanliness, relaxed atmosphere and happy people around. While we were looking for some place to eat, was a very attractive facia of first floor resteraunt which was offering lazy lunch. With our kid along, we were looking for a place we can sit at liesure and eat.
The place is a bar cum resteraunt, and had the most exceptional food at giveaway prices. The portions were huge and very filling. The ala carte options on menu were also very inviting and we just fell short of ordering some because we were so fill by their fixed thali!
Must say it was one place i would goto when ever I am back to the city... hope to do so soon :)

Please dont' judge by the look of the hotel, go inside and give it a try! These are the words told to me by the vendor next to Sikkim tourism office on 15th March'09 afternoon. We were hungry, looking for a restaurant on M.G.Road. I asked the shopkeeper, where could I get wholesome food quickly. He suggested me try this place on the M.G.Road itself on the second lane towards the East, from Sikkim Tourism office ( which is at one end of M.G.Road). On reaching we found many foreigners were having meals there. They serve mostly Indian Thali meal, Bengali Thali meal and Mutton curry, Fish Curry, Chapati, Nepalese food etc. It's very small place but food is excellent.
We tried their Chapati & mutton curry, it was wonderful. we were so satisfied that we went there second time on return from North Sikkim.
They dont serve drinks but you get vegetarian meal also.
You can have Indian meal for Rs.50 to Rs80/- USD$ 1.2 to USD$2 or more.
Favorite Dish: Mutton Curry & Chapati!

This restaurant is not famous for food and drinks as it is not on main M.G.Road where people may just walk in and have a drink. But this caters mainly to the residents of the hotel. I had my several meals here right from Breakfast to Dinner during my four night's stay. I am convinced their food is great and very tasty. Service is just excellent!!
The owner must try to market their unutilized property. It surely can bring more people only for food & drinks. Perhaps they have so many tourists coming in their place they dont' need to go to public.

While going to Gangtok the vehicles stop at many places for breakfast or lunch enroute. We too stopped at Lohapul ( Bridge of Iron) near Teesta. You can get food of your choice enroute at many restaurants like Mama Hotel. We prefered to have what the local have, Chapati, vegetables and omelette for breakfast. It was wonderful , prepared before your eyes in very clean environment.
These shops also sell many kinds of foods& drinks, right from Chewing gums to beer!
Favorite Dish: Omelette!

This place Kyongnosla is the last stop before Tsomgo Lake, situated at 10400 feet also perhaps last habitat of human in the Sino Indian border. Though some people and Indian Army do live and present at Nathu La pass and Tsomogo Lake but this place has a population of more than 1000 people and with a Post Office, which opens daily!
All the vehicles going towards Nathu La pass, Baba Mandir & Tsomogo Lake do stop there for tea or last minute additional dress. You can hire here jackets, heavy woolens, over coats, snow boots etc in case you are not fully prepared for high altitude snow and cold wind.
You surely need your hot cuppa here before settling in the snow. If you are hungry or thirsty, you can get some food ( momo, noodles) and a shot of your favourite drink too! The beautiful girl shopkeeper make you forget the trouble of the journey.

This is heaven for the vegetarians. The city of Gangtok has a sizeable population of Rajasthani Marwari business community since the time of Chogyal. So they sometime frequent this place apart from the tourists. The restaurant is non- smoking, non drinking decor excellent , good seating arrangement makes good ambience for the teetoteller vegetarian tourist. A must try place.
Favorite Dish: Masala Dosa!

On our visit to Gangtok in 2003 , we stayed at Annapurna Hotel, next to this restaurant. We had several meals here that time we were very satified. Driven by that nostalgia, we had our first dinner at this place but to our surprise we found the place is empty( They explained the tourists are yet to be there), food is tasteless, quantity has reduced and prices are very high compared to other restaurants of Gangtok.
We had Chapati, Chicken Curry, Fried rice, the Chicken pices were in bits. It was not difficult to realise, why the tourists were not there. The greed of the owner to earn more from lesser no of tourists has reduced their business. The place used to be very popular among the Bengali tourists, during our 2003 visit to this place the famous Bengali Movie Super Star Prosenjit (Who stayed at Tashi Delek opp. to this place) also had his meals here! This time we were totally disappointed.
I told the owner about the food and service quality and suggested what he should do to attract more tourists but he was very confident of himself. Gooluck to him and Babumasai, we shall never visit this place again.

There are many restaurants in Gangtok but we liked the place very much, we visited twice for Momo only. Momo is a pan cake made with either meat of your choice or vegetable. It's either steamed or fried. The steamed tastes better if you can eat it hot. It's served with a bowl of Soup.
We had an evening out with our newly wed couple friend Saswata and Sujata at this place. We spent a few hours before dinner here. We had steamed Chicken Momo, Momo Soup, Chicken Mushroom Soup,Bacardi, Coke and I had a glassful of Gin & tonic. We ended up having four plates of Momo as was very very tasty.
In case you are at Gangtok just give it a try for a few drinks and food. They also serve Tibetan Lunc & Dinner at very reasonable price.
Favorite Dish: What else!!!!! Momo!
Please see video of this place too!!

If you get a chance go and sit on the terrace cafe overlooking the mountain views. The food is full of flavour, expresso is great. Just don't have the cocktails, irish coffee was cold and had fizzy cream like substance on top. The Mojito was basically creme de menthe (mouthwash). The staff are friendly and attentive
Favorite Dish: No particular favourite.
