Requirements of visiting North Sikkim.

One requires special permits to visit North Sikkim.Inner Line Permit is required for foreigners visiting Sikkim and it is valid for 15 days. It is issued by the Indian Ministry for Home Affairs, or Govt. of Sikkim, New Sikkim House, New Delhi. Another Protected Area Permit had to be obtained for visiting the interior areas which can be obtained from the Department of Tourism, M.G. Marg, Gangtok.Rangpo Checkpost which is on the West Bengal and Sikkim border point issues a permit of two days. By taking this permit, one can reach Gangtok and take a regular permit from there.For Indians, one has to provide 4 copies of photograps, copies of I.D, such as Passport, Voter's I.D, Driving License etc. Well it may sound cumbersome but actually it is quite easy, just provide the documents and your travel agents will arrange everything for you. Visit to Sikkim

For a visit to Sikkim we need a Indian visa and a special permit for Sikkim (max 15 days).We asked the permit at the Indian Embassy in our home country together with the visum.I've read, that it is also possible to get a permit for Sikkim at the airports of Calcutta and Delhi, at the Foreigner Registration Office in Darjeeling or at the Sikkim Tourism offices in Siliguri.So check before you go.You can combine your trip easily with a visit to Darjeeling. Bring that pair of Binos

There's so much to take in at every turn of those hair pin bends, that it's hard to single out just one activity. But I'd definitely recommend bringing your binoculars and a good camera if you're into landscape shots. Best time to go is end of the year, as you have clear days and beaut views. Driving up and down those hills, mountains and sniffing the fresh scent of the mountain air... smiling at the ponsettias lining the roads and just letting thoughts take you away :)
