The average South Indian is very fond of movies, all the Chief minister of Tamilnadu were great famous movie actors. It is said a South Indian family would surely watch a movie in a day!
I have seen the quality of South Indian movie is very good, there are several very good actors from South India and the songs are pretty good. Many of the Bollywood actress come from south. A.R.rehman is also from the state of Tamilnadu.
The city of Chennai has has many multiplexes which can put western movie theatre to shame and their Indian counter parts as well. For a change I shall suggest a South Indian movie to have a glimpse of South Indian night life. Besides movie halls the city of Chennai many discos and bars to unwind.

It is an open air discotheque wich really rocks on saturdays, as long as it is not closed down by the police. One of the few nightclubs in Chennai at all.
Dress Code: I couldn´t find out any dresscode, but I would suggest , not to go there in sandals.

a very beautiful beach, with no beggars and crowds. you can be at the beach till 1:00 in the night. the cool breeze is a welcome relief from the heat and humidity. some of the fishermen will consent to take you along for a short trip on their boats, though this is not suggested for the faint-hearted. there are a couple of dhabas around the beach. good food but for the strong stomachs. for the safer option, there is a food courts with 6 restaurants, including a Dominoes pizza joint. try the pani puris at the gayatri joint in the food court. excellent stuff.

Do not go here. I had three drinks and was charged 3344 rupees, which is $70, £50. I was never shown a menu or price list. The hotel tried to blame it on taxes! Besides, the dance floor was empty.
