Favorite thing: The seasons in most of Tamil Nadu are hot, hotter, and hottest. Hot is roughly December and January (average temp around 80, flawless blues skies) - this is the best time to visit, and most tourists come during this time. Hottest is roughly the month of May (average temp around 105, white hot sun in a white hot sky) - this is the worst time to visit, although you're more likely to get rooms on short notice (however, this is also school break, so it's harder to get rooms at major pilgrimage destinations). Hotter is all the rest of the year, temps and skies somewhere in between hot and hottest. Leaves fall off in the summer, it rains (hard) in October/November. In the far south, it rains (hard) longer, starting around June.

Favorite thing: When using governmental bus in Tamilnadu(!!! Kerala is a different story) you have a great lack of communication problem. The driver and the conductor (and the pessangers) generally don't understand English (or any other western language), and CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOUR PRONOUNCIATION, EVEN WHEN YOU EXPRESS A NAME OF A CITY !!!
Recommended solution: Write the name on a big paper and show it to the driver and the conductor. This is not 100% guarantee, even when they answer OK with their heads.
Personal experience:
They dropped me off the bus 90 KMs from the destination (Kodaikanal, in this case), with 4 suitcases and bags, on 01:00 AM.

Favorite thing: This quiet little hill station on the Shevaroy hills of the Eastern ghats is the only one of its kind in northern Tamil Nadu. While the rest of this region is generally dry, including the predominantly short and rocky hills of the Eastern ghats, Yercaud presents a welcome contrast with its cool climate ,where temperature never rises above 30 º C and dip below 13 º C . It is also a less expensive place than either Udhagamandalam or Kodaikkanal .Coffee and citrus fruits, most notably oranges, are grown in abundance apart from bananas, pears and jack. Scenically, Yercaud is as enchanting and picturesque as the hill stations on the Western ghats and trekking here can be one of the most pleasurable ways to pass time.
Places for sight-seeing include the Lake, Lady's Seat, Killiyur Falls, Pagoda Point, Arthur's Seat, Kaveri Peak and the Shevaroyan temple
You can see a virety of flowers especially vast collection of hebiscus flowers here.
Yercaud is connected by road to Salem and there are frequent buses to and from Salem. It is possible to get buses to any other place in Tamil Nadu . The nearest railway station is Salem, and the nearest airport is Trichy.
Fondest memory: Trekking through the misty hills i will always remember. The Un poluted\breathtaking beauty of Yercadu will be there in heart always with its sweet fragrence.

Favorite thing: Since this place is on the beach and close to a fishing village, you could get fresh fish daily and have it prepared as per local recipies (chettinand, kerala style etc...)... it's delicious..
