    Vattakotai - Circular Fort

Vattakotai (Circular Fort) is 5 Kms on the Tirunelvelli road from Kanyakumari. This fort is made of granite during the reign of Marthanda Verma to serve as defence. It is spread across an area of 4 acres and it is rectangular in shape. The fort is enclosed by walls 25 to 26 feet high, including the parapet, 29 feet thick at the front, 18 feet at the corners and 6 feet at the rear.

The portion running into the sea is the most strongly built under the orders of De Lannoy during the reign of Mathandavarma (1729-58). About 1810 A.D.

This fort has been turned into a picnic spot, and you can spent some time here. If you climb up the fort you will get a very scenic view of the beaches.

Surrounding Kanyakumari you will find some of the loveliest of the beahes. These beaches are everywhere..but the infrastructure is poor..dont expect resorts and even small shops nearby, but still if you have a vehicle, some eatables and some cans of beer..then there is no better place to go to....ust chill out...in the shade of a tree....if you dont find the chairs and tables...or better still make your vehicle the restuarant on the go... make sure to take a local guy along..he may be able to hunt some really good beaches for you and better still some spicy tamilian dishes too...

    Know your future !!!

One thing that you will notice in every street around the corner is the old man sitting with a parrot in the cage. Apparantly if you pay this man 20 bucks his parrot will pick up a card for you...and then what !!! You will know your future....he told me something about my past...he asked me to guess a number between 1 and 5 ...and he got the answer wrong... and then he read my hands ...and told me I will be parenting 5 kids !!! That was difficult for me to take...but yeah...his parrot was cute and the poor thing could'nt fly..should have bought the parrot with that money....and let him free...
