Around the outside of the Kumari Amman Temple, on the beach side, you'll find a few stalls selling some nice looking sea shells. The smallest only cost a few rupees but the larger ones cost a couple of hundred. The town's people know how to make some money from the 2 million tourists that pass through here every year!
All over the seashore there are vendors from small to big selling sea shells. These may vary in size, colour and texture. The seashells are cheap if you can bargain well and the small ones sell for 5 Rs a dozen to a large one which may even sell at 200 Rs. I guess it is a nice idea to carry back home a large shell as a souvenier, although we never bought one !!!
What to buy: Village ladies selling a wonderful variety of sea shells. I have a big collection of sea shells at home and I added a few more bought from here.
