Stone carving - Tallado de la piedra

by elpariente Updated Nov 24, 2013

They left an unfinished stone cut and we may see how how they made holes, according to the court line that they wanted, in order to introduce wooden wedges that when wet should expand and cause the crack that breaks the stone.
After that and once moved the piece to the working area , only is needed much art, much patience, a chisel and a hammer

by elpariente Written Nov 19, 2013

At dusk, the school children, the families, the friends ... go to the beach and they play and have fun there.
People do not bathe in the water , some dare to get em feet wet, but most are limited to playing and having fun in the sand and buying in the stalls a sweet or a souvenir to take home

    Stonemasons - Canteros

by elpariente Updated Nov 19, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

No wonder that in a city like this, where the tradition of stone work is so old and so extensive there are some of the best workshops of India to work the stone
We will call it the gods "street", because in it, accompanied by the sound of hammers and chisels, we can see apart from all the Hindu pantheon, Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu ... the sculptors who are the true protagonists.
While they make a break, they smile , they talk and ask you where do you come from?

Salt, sand and wind - Sal, arena y viento

by elpariente Updated Nov 19, 2013

Salt, sand and wind are the great enemies of the master pieces that are on the edge of the sea and so the Archaeological Survey of India is developing a plan to treat with paper pulp the sculptures in order that it the absorb saline water stored inside the rock so that it allows the stone to breathe and to preserve its strength
We saw this treatment applied to the figures of Nandi , in the Shore Temple, they have a plan where they cover some figures and after three days the coat is removed and they start with others, so they may treat all Nandis several times in the dry season
