    Temple at Thripullani

by vpas Updated Aug 19, 2014

It is located about 65 kms from Rameshwaram and takes about 1 and half hours to reach by car. This is the place where legend holds that Lord Rama began the building of the bridge towards Sri Lanka. On the sea shore is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman who is called Sethu Bandha Jaya Veera Hanuman. Near this temple are halls meant for Hindu rituals done specifically for the dead people. Scores of people come here to make offerings to appease the dead ancestors of the family especially those who have had unnatural deaths or infant deaths. Saturdays are especially crowded. It is worth a visit if you want to take a look at such Hindu rituals.

    Adi Jagannathar Temple at Thirupullani

by vpas Written Aug 19, 2014

This is a very ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. It is believed that this is the place where King Dasharatha, the father of Lord Rama performed the Puthrakameshti yaga inorder to beget children.
This is also the place where Lord Rama rested in meditation on a bed of Dharbha grass before embarking on his journey towards Lanka to rescue Goddess Sita, his consort.
It is a very beautiful temple.
There shopping selling baskets, flowers and other small knick knacks just outside the temple.
