Our tour of the carpet factory (name forgotten) began with a look at the artists who copied and painted traditional patterns. The next steo in the process was weaving, then cutting and finally the washing of the rug.
I was surprised at the force that went into the washing ~ four men repeatedly running their boards over the weave. It was intensive labour. . .but the finished products were exquisite.

You need to have willpower and very thick skin to go shopping in Agra ~ the salesmen are among the most persistent I encountered anywhere.
However, there are some fantastic opportunities for a "behind the scenes" look at silk carpet manufacturing.

What to buy: One popular thing to buy in Agra is miniature repliate of Taj Mahal. It is, of course, a symbol of love. Would make a great gift for loved one back home. Can be found in may gift shops around Taj Mahal.

Shopping in Agra, particulary around Taj could be tiresome. You will find many vendors and shop owners approaching you to buy from their place. Bargain is the key - otherwise, some of the goods seem outrageously overpriced.
As seen in Taj Mahal, Agra is home to inlaid works. You can visit some of the workshops where craftsmen are working and creating this beautiful piece of art.
