From the point you get down in Lucknow station, the auto rickshaw drivers will follow you with promises of cheap and best accomodations, just ignore them.
While you travel inside Lucknow, all the auto drivers will try to take you to Chikan shops (they will call them factories), you will have to be firm enough to avoid them.

Think about extra money for the entrance in monuments.
On every door, you have to pay some thing. Yah, it is ok, the amount in perhaps not too much but it effects your budget.
for example, the entrance ticket for Bara Imambara is 300 Rps on 25/03/2008. it give you the
permission to go on 4 places but apart from that you have to pay the guide for Bhulbhulayyian
250 Rs. The price differs for locals.
Nice place to visit.

If you are a stranger to this place stick to the pre paid modes of travel , You shall be stromed by loads of drivers / agents to take you to places. you might end up at places which you would not know of since this is a place less visited by travellers.
This is a safer mode.
Fun Alternatives: One can rely on local people for their querise since this is a place shy but helpful.

Avoid agent who flock you as soon as you land in Lucknow. Its better visit the official site and have an idea of the hotels, even if ask the local people, they can guide you better or information center.
