Geographical Savoir Faire is a must for India

Here we all are with a heap of Luggage. ADI

Luggage and bags: Take a pack (Rucksack). Nothing more.

Oh I take a large bumb bag (worm to the front with straps) that carries my Camera, lenses and books pens etc. (About 5 litres)

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Sandals (and a pair of sneakers if you visit the Himalaya)

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: I bought everything I needed in India (but then I am a male) save insect repellant.

Photo Equipment: AI bought with me, a small Canon ixus 4200 for portability and snaps. A Canon EOS 3 with a 28-300 lense and filters. Thats it

Miscellaneous: Clothes I bought light cotton clothes in India. A lungi is a good oneif you are one the beach (it triples as a towel and an extra blanket). For the Himalaya you need Long pants, a jersey and a parker. Trekking equipment you can hire. Boots (you'll need to bring if you are going Alpine)

India is a Hot country... PACK LIGHT! A pack according to weher you are going to be. Don't carry
mountain clothes around Rajasthan, and don't wear only cotton in Kashmir and Jammu.

    Mosquito coil

    by l_joo Updated Feb 27, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Bring nothing in particular, just something simple.

    Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: I wear sandals

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can buy medicines here anytime anywhere on the street, just look out for the red cross sign in shops. I bought the Lactovit capsules for my diarrhea in the medicine shops.

Photo Equipment: Blackout more than 5 times daily, what to do?

Miscellaneous: Mosquito coil is needed for the size of blood sucking prehistoric insects here.

    Packing List

by sandravdp Written Sep 7, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Take your backpack and go!

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Clothing tips: see cultural tips. Shoes: for Varanasi you definitely should put on your walking shoes. Walking is something you'll do alot here and the ground and riverside are very dirty! (Sandy, muddy, cowshit on it, garbage etc.).

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: anti diarhoea pills, anti malaria pills, anti mosquito spray, suncream, plasters, something disinfective.

Photo Equipment: Good fotoshops are here, real professional shops too. These shops you can recognize by their yellow colour and by their airconditioning ;) They don't sell film outside as tourist shops do.
