Autorickshaws (3-wheelers) are also available from Durgapur railway station. To take the AutoRicks, come towards the baazar side of the railway station. Most of the Autoricks are queued up there. Mostly the fares are fixed but its better to ask few Ricks about the price before agreeing for the fare.
Take a Rick if you have to travel 5-10 kms as they are slow and take time :)

The Main bus station is near Durgapur train station. Two kinds of bus servies are available, viz, Local & Long distance.
For local buses, State Transport (ST) buses and Private buses are available. ST buses have irregular times to leave. Though ST have a inquiry office near the Bus Depo.
Otherwise, the Private bus availbility is good. The bus service starts at around 6am till 10pm.
For long distance buses, there are ST buses as well as Private buses.
To take a bus towrads Asansol or Kolkata, the other good option is to come to Muchipara which is on the Highway by local bus and then take a bus towards Asansol / Kolkata. These is convenient as the bus frequence on the highway is good.

I was born in Calcutta but brought up in Durgapur. Its a steamy little steel township which is an oddity in the coal belt with its magnificent greenery and great amenities.
