Famed Chello Kebab complete with Rice/ egg/salad by goutammitra, 4 more photos As of now many of you know our Park Street is and was the best entertainment district in India. It was full of restaurants, bars, cabarets and so on. In one word the best night life was here only. Peter Cat is one such restaurant started during British raj still continuing. It is famous for food and drinks at a very resonable price. As result it is always full, you may have to wait for sometime and it's worth. We took Munu out on her birthday on 30th November'07 for treat. As Munu is having her exams we decided not to have a blast but a quite dinner with us. We gave treat to Munu's friends too.
The owners introduced Chello Kebab a complete dish with Rice, Butter, two potions of Kebab. It is said they brought it from Turkey as it is very popular out there. We had Chello Kebab , Cold Chicken Sala, Iced Coffee Cream. And me and Rakhi had a beer and Bloody Mary for drink. The dishes were excellent as always. I have been going to this place since childhood and the taste of the food is always better, it has not deteriorated over the last 40/50 years! Ffort Radisson has Four Restaurants but the people prefer to sit in Citadel I & II. Both are Multicusine Restaurants. They also have Captains Deck Bar. On the afternoon of 13th Jan,2007., we were conducting a Retailers Meet at Raichak at diiferent venue. When we finished it was already 5PM we just remembered we did not have lunch but the Retailers had. We took this opportunity to drive down my favourite place for a glass of beer and Club Sandwitch as it was too late for Lunch. We also had French Fries and wafers till our sandwitches arrive. Though it is expensive it was extremely well made and the Beer was cheaper than Calcutta star hotels. The Sandwitches are Rs150/- plus Tax( USD 3.5) and Beer Rs 100 ( USD 2.3) per 650ML bottle. We were full for Rs.1000 including tips. ( USD 11). Thats' a real bargain price for a five star deluxe hotel. The normal cost per person for Lunch or Dinner would be around Rs600- Rs 1000/- ( USD 12-22) Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Raichak, Near Diamond Harbour.Directions: From Kolkata 55KMs, Take right Turn from Sarisa, towards Raichak. Maia Demorest at Copper Chimney with us. by goutammitra, 4 more photos We took our French VT friend Maia Elisa Demorest for dinner with us at Copper Chimey on 26th February as we felt we shopuld not shock her by treating to direct hot & spicy Bengali food as it was her first day in India and she had not slept for 24hours! Though she insisted that she will like our Bengali food, but we did not want to take any chance instead we tried to select a combination of Indian meals. To our astonishment she beat us by eating our all spicy food and a full green chilli like we Indians!! She really has mastered the art of eating Indian food at Paris!! Since this is our festival " Holi" time the restaurant has also geared up to the occasion. The decor has changed to suit the occasion. We were given two plates of Pani Puri( see picture of this popular Indian snack) and a glass each of Thandai( A herbal Indian cool drink made of saffron, almond, milk, Khus and other cooling ingredient) on the house as starters. As we were already late and hungry we straightway asked for the dinner. It was also a great experience! This time we insisted to be served by Anand Mallick, but to our surprise we were served by three of his colleagues apart from Mallick. We were told they like us!! We feel spoilt!!
This time we we wanted to treat Maia with little care and decided the dishes with less spicey, so we had Malai Prawns( A Bengali Dish), Boti Kali Mirch ( A North Indian Lamb dish smeared with Pepper), Chettinad Chicken( A spicey Tamilnadu dish simply excelent!!), Naan and as desert Brownies and scoop of Ice Cream on Sizzler as dessert. Maia told us she makes Chettinad Chicken at home in Paris as she had collected the recepi from Chennai dring her last visit to India. Copper Chimey also gave us 15% discount on food!!! Chicken Vegetable Mushroom Stir Fried. by goutammitra, 4 more photos A good typical chinese food joint where you can have a sumptous meal with your family for a very reasonable price. The decor may not be called excellent but what you need in this hot summer is a good air conditioner. That's what Kafulok gives you. The service is good.Though it is not located on the main road yet lovers of authentic chinese food frequent this place as they get the real taste of China at an affordable rate. We visited this place on three consecutive Sunday evening starting from April 22 nd. We have tried many dishes and all the dishes are very well made.
Last Sunday we tried Chicken Vegetable Mushroom stir fried, Gravy Hakka Chowmin, Pepper Chicken, Chicken Wanton Soup, Black Lebel Beer & Ice Cream. I must say we liked Chicken Vegetable Mushroom stir Fried most and it was an excellently prepared dish. What I understand that all these Chinese joints of Tangra make the food to suit our Indian palate. But they can make the food as per Chinese Mainland if you prefer. But you will have to specify. A great experience indeed. Please let your preference be known to Mr. H.Y.Chen or the owner Richard before hand. We celebrated my birthday at Silver Oak, on Lansdowne Road. The place is a very neat and cosy eating place with very reasonable price. We selected to have Roasted Rabbit ( now it is bred in farms as a substitute to red meat), Naan, Mutton Sagwala ( mutton cooked with spinach), Murg Tikka ( as starter) and Ice cream. Roasted Rabbit was prepared exlellently to suit our Indian taste but if you insist they will make it less spicy for you. The crew behaviour is excellent, service is very efficient and prompt. They will offer you a seat in smoking area in case you prefer to smoke. A very nice place to have dinner with your near and dear! Rakhi & Cameron discussing over the menu. by goutammitra, 4 more photos This is one of the better restaurants of Kolkata, servinf North West Frontier food from India & Pakistan and also Thai,Chinese, Japanese and other Oriental food in the other part called Jongs'. The thing to be noticed here, the decor, the food, the crew, the price all are of highest standard. Price is also not very high but affordable. We enjoyed our Pakistani food festival very much as it is just like our Indian mughlai food. I am really tempted to Invite our Pakistani friends Faiza and Amir soon. But they have their food street at Lahore and Karachi. Can Kolkata be their match? Perhaps not but we can mix our love and Bengali delicacy to make it tempting!! The Tunda Kebab- Simply Deliciously Melting! by goutammitra, 4 more photos Perhaps I have wriiten earlier, Calcutta is Gastronomers' delight. You can have dinner for $1000 or just for $1 or even less. This place is Gastronomer's paradise. You can have food of your choice. I have not visited Pakistan, but they say this is just like Lahore. My Pakistani friends Faiza & Aamir will vouch for it. There are some places I want to visit, eat their speciality, write it in my tips but I have only one sunday with me and that is utilized for many things as my life is not organized( I wish I had). But I always try to find out what is available and taste it and make a tip. Many Visitors from Western Countries visit Calcutta and eat junk food at Sudder Street ( Whatever is available there) and fall sick and blame Indian food and the climate. So now I have decided to write a few tips on the food suitable for Western Palate at an affordable price. No this tip is not about that . This tip is about the Pakistani food festival held at Zaranj, one of the premier Restaurants of Kolkata from 7th March to 1st April. We took our America VT friend Camerom Beatty there. It was an excellent lunch and great value for money.
We had as Appetizer Burrani ( yogurt churned with milk and freshly boiled Cumin seeds, ginger, coriander and green chilli), Tunda Kebab( finely chopped Mutton keema-drizzled with saffron, cooked on a Flat frying pan with a combination of 32 spices- simply melts in the mouth), Tali Hui Machli ki Chaap ( Tender fillets of Beckti fish, marinated with exotic Peshawari spices, shallow fried), Lahori Nihari with Khamiri Roomali Roti ( Lamb cooked in special garam masala Lajjat a taam and a sheer 70 types potli masala from Bundelkhandi gharana), Multani biryani served with Raita, Gobi Badami( cauliflower cooked in yogurt gravy flavoured with cardamom, saffron and tosted Almond flakes), Zafrani Kheer & Muzzafar ( Sweet dishes made of Creamy saffron and reduced milk and Traditional Shimai blnded with sugar syrup with a topping of Dry fruits) and it all went with my favourite Dansberg Beer! On 1st of January we decided to have Indian Dhaba( Restaurant) food at one of the very good Dhabas of Kolkata. Dhabas are Indian word for Rustic Eateries situated in a Petrol Pump. This A1 Dhaba is situated in one of the private run Petrol Pump on Calcutta Bombay Express highway. The Pump is owned by Relience Industries, but these Restaurants run by their Franchaisees. Food is authentic and prepared in the correct Indian style. Food is served in Stainless Steel plates, glasses. Just the appropriate Rustic Indian atmosphere!!!
Today we had Mutton Biryani, Mutton roganjosh, Chicken Tikka Kebab, Butter Naan. All excellently made with care!! Price is bit expensive for the kind of pain we took. Its 50 KMs drive from Kolkata! But food was tasty. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: On NH 6, Bombay Calcutta highway. We used to visit this place during childhood, even about 8/10 years ago for the best Indian Mughlai food at a reasonable price. But everything has changed it seems right from food to service. The quality and quantity of the food has deteriorated a lot since then. Service is also very bad the crew old and always hankers for tips for any service they provide. In my view the entire crew needs to be sacked first in order to revive the glory of this place. I believe the owner must be having trade union problem otherwise they are supposed to be professional Restaureers!!

As usual they are at their best, having perfected the art of making chinese food, the Anjan Chatterjee ( The CMD of Mainland China), team is sailing ahead. This newly opened Mainland China at South City Mall is surely their better addition after Oh Calcutta and Mainland China at Gurusaday Road. We took our American guests Sonia Das and her Professor father Dr.Mihir K. Das, from Long Beach, Calfornia, USA, to taste their food. Sonia herself is an excellent cook apart from being attorney in Long Beach, she too vouched that thefood and the taste of Mailland China is just authentic! We tried their roast Pork, cooked in Cantonese style, Prawns, Egg Plants, Mix Noodles( The names will be posted at later date as the bill remains with sonia and I dont' remember the names exactly).
