The clientele is a 50/50 mix between locals and foreigners, which is always a good sign. The prices are very reasonable. I'm able to buy an elaborate feast for myself and three different beggars, all for under 200 rupees - $5! I buy way more than I could possibly eat, which allows me to try a little of everything whilst sharing the food with those less fortunate. This place does decent western food too, for those who grow weary of Indian food.
Favorite Dish: Veg MoMos are fantastic, I opted for the fried variety but you can also get them steamed.
This place also does a decent pizza, but it's the snacks and starters that were the real standout for me.
We had a great lunch on New Year's eve at Sichuan Eating House at Tangra, China Town , Kolkata. We wanted to try a new place as we had food at almost all the 100 odd eating houses in Tangra, our China Town. We wanted to go to our friend's place at Shun Li, but we had dinner there consecutively on two days during Christmas. So we settled for this place.
The uniqueness of this place is that it is run by an erstwhile tough man of Tangra, nick named as Prem Chopra ( named after Yesteryear Bollywood villain), who has left that life and have started new life. This place does not have bar license unlike other places in Tangra. We called the chef and informed that we are interested to have only pure Chinese food and not Indianised Chinese food. He promised and served us at least three very good dishes, which we liked very much.
We had Green Pepper Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Sichuan Chicken, Mix Cantonese noodles, Mixed Fried Rice and cold drinks! It was a real superb meal.
The Mix Cantonese Noodle, Pepper Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken was just superb!
It was Christmas in Kolkata and we decided to give ourselves a Royal Treat at our old friend's place Shun Li in Tangra, run by brother sister duo Matthew Chen and Michelle Wong. Michelle is the cook apart from her mother. This time we were accompanied by our family friend Singer and TV news reader Indrani Bhattacharyya and her famous writer- journalist husband Sankarlal Bhattacharyya. In my view Shun Li is the only place in whole of China Town, where you get excellent genuine homemade Chinese food. Since we visited them after long time, we just told them we would like to have our old favourite menu and it has to be selected by Matthew only!
We had Two Green Pepper Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Chicken with vegetables, Chicken Egg Rice Noodle, Chicken Egg Fried Rice , Cold drinks and my special Vodka spiced with fiery chilly!
It was an excellent menu and excellent afternoon!
India Restaurant is a well known name among the best restaurants in Kolkata. Specialized in various non vegetarian cuisines, it is one of the most famous non vegetarian restaurants in Kolkata. Every dish they serve carries the deep, complex flavors that are the hallmark of Indian cuisine; each curry's spices are so distinct that you can tell them apart by smell alone.
"Bewitching condiments, careful cooking, succulent spices, a warm atmosphere, and solicitous service make every occasion here a revelation. This is fine dining, Indian style, with each and every plate perfectly presented and each dish, decidedly delicious." We at India's hope you have a pleasant and memorable dining experience!
Favorite Dish: Chicken Bharta - It is a delicious dish prepared with boneless chicken and is served best with tandoori roti. The cubed chicken bharta has flavors of chicken with semi-cooked onions and aroma of fresh coriander.
Chicken Cheese Kebab - Recently introduced a succulent chicken kebab with a twist of cheese. Its a must try there.
Chicken Afghani - An ancient city of art, traditions and being the nation’s multi-cultural capital, Kabul has traditionally offered a wide variety of cooking styles and ingredients. "Chicken Tandoor Afghani" is one such gift of this culture.
Calcutta's premium fast food. Is quite crowded during lunch so go off-hours. Plan on several visits for the sweets.
Favorite Dish: Raj Kachari. Kulfi Faludai, etc.
Excellent kebab. Very attractive decor. Good service.

We were here one day for dinner... Good food, decent service and the portions were pretty decent as well.
The conceit is the variety of dishes eaten by Marco Polo on his historic trek. Well it works.
Favorite Dish: The Persian dishes
I went here during Ramazan and I think I was enjoying myself as much as all the others there breaking fast. Great Kebabs and all their Mughlai Indian
Favorite Dish: Reshme Kebabs
The place looks a bit grimy but the food is quite good. Tandooris and north indian vegetarian food.
Favorite Dish: Fish Tikka Kebab
Excellent food but unfriendly service, Tandoora and Biryanies.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Biryani (one of the best i ever had, Mutton Biryani might be even better if you like mutton)
