Sunderbans Tiger Camp Shop: Souvenirs from Sunderbans
This little shop inside the camp was quite interesting. Books aplenty about the region, its flora and fauna. PLenty of Tiger paraphanalia (masks, tee-shirts, caps)Rows and rows of bottled honey, which is collected in the Mangrove Forest.Small hand carved figurines of animals and local deities. Wood carvings that are made from dead mangrove branches. We loved these. Each one has a completely unique shape, - some are grnarled and painted with patterns, some are naturally coloured and beautifully polished up with some kind of oil. Each one is a work of art.Very rustic, the shop is really a bungalow, with a thatched roof, and beautiful polished stone floor. The young lady behind the desk spoke good English, and was most helpful. She packaged our purchases really carefully ( they were breakables) and everything survived the trip back to Sydney.Needless to say, I purchased yet more reading...
