Not as quick as India Rail thats for sure.

by Hmmmm

Travelling quickly and easily around India as we have already established is a dream with Government sponsored India Rail, the Air India and Jet Air airpasses, sleeper buses, express buses, bus buses, Ambassador cars and those munty, polluting Enfield Motorbikes. There are definately better ways to travel than mounting a slow slow slow donkey. Yet I have seen many indians doing just that. The two beasties in the picture seem to be working donkeys. Beasts of burden. Poor little blighters. But they look like they are having a chat so that is cool huh! I like Donkeys they are fab!

Largest Rail Network.

by aadil

Indian Railways is the largest and only rail network in India. Services are not really up to the mark as far as comfort and safety are concerned and many trains are in poor state of maintenance compared to most other countries. Most trains are never running on time and if you have a flight to catch from somewhere then always leave a day inbetween to avoid missing your onward flight or other connections. Schedules are a bit difficult to follow and there are so many different trains and types that even some of the railway staff may be confused. Always check if the train is running on a particular day as there are some trains that are not daily services. Preferably book a second class airconditioned (2 tier or 3 tier) but a normal sleeper is cheaper still. The Rajdhani (capital city connections) and Shatabdi class of trains are some of the best compared to the rest of the lot. More...

Train - An insight to India

One of the best ways to get to know India and Indians is to travel by train. It is like a crash-course on Indian-ness. As if each person in the train has been appointed to play a part in the mega-play.Advice : tip the train-steward before hand to get an excellent service-----work in progress---------

Indian Railways

by mariocibelli

I was so pleased with the few train trips that I took in India. I cannot reccommend travelling by train enough. I took the following trips:Bombay - PuneBombay - DelhiDelhi - Jaipur - DelhiDelhi - BombayBombay - Margao (Goa)Margao (Goa) - BombayBombay - Pune - BombayI booked most of my tickets on-line and had them delivered, no extra cost. In Delhi you can pick them up at the station.I reserved most of my tickets on the internet. The only thing to remember is they can only be booked when the Indian rail office is open IN INDIA.

Transport-By train

by radz

In India main cities most places main cities, tourist cites aree well connected by AIR.Most of the places were very well connected by train. There is sleeper class, the charge will be less, but too crowded. Then AC three tire,AC 2,First AC.The first AC fair is high,2nd AC is best.its reasonable,I suggest if you are travelling by train choose 2nd AC.Tickets can be booked online, but tickets you have collect when you come to India. Can give local hotel addres to deliver if you had booked the hotel already or you know where you will be going to stay.Or you can collect personally from the railway station counter.Few travel agent will collect on you behalf if you avail there service. If you using Indian travel agent they will take care of everythings.I am explaining these details ,who are arranging/plan the trip themselves.

Tour Rajasthan India

by traveldina

In February 2011 we were in Rajasthan for 2 weeks. It was our first trip to India at all.Parwan Sharma prepared a wonderful tour for us www.driverindiatour.comAll Hotels where clean and confortable.Car with Air Condition, sometimes too chilly for us, so poor Nandu had to switch off!Nandu was our guide and driver for the whole time.He consults all our wishes, also those out of our schedule. He showed us many things, which ‘normal’ tourists cannot see. The whole tour was well-organised (hotels, sight-seeing, guides in the cities).Beside cultural climaxes, Nandu also organised a camel tour in the desert (near Jaisalmer) with accommodation open air.He also gave advises for the meal (which restaurants, what to eat) and protected us against tout.We just can recommend Parwan Sharma and his drivers for tours in Rajasthan and India. Very sure we will come back to incredible India!

Flying Within India

by Donna_in_India

Airport security in India is pretty tight. You'll need a printout of your ticket/confirmation to enter the airport. This is usually inspected along with your passport (or ID for nationals). If you are unable to get a printout before you arrive at the airport, go to the specific airline's ticket counter and they'll print one for you.Once inside the airport (after checking in), women and men are separated for security screening. Women are brought into a little makeshift booth and scanned by wand - any beeps and they'll give you a feel. Once you're cleared your boarding card is stamped. Men are scanned out in the open. All hand luggage is scanned and the tag is stamped. (Tags are available at ticket counter). The stamped tags are checked at several points before boarding the aircraft. Additional hand searching of luggage is possible as is another "body" scan. Depends on the airport and...

Jet Air - India's got it going on!

by Hexepatty

We flew to / from the US via Jet Air. It's an India-based airline. AMAZING. Great aircraft / equipment, good service and decent food (and even if it is not decent, they feed you ALL the time!). Lots of games / videos / movies to entertain yourself, too.I would recommend them without hesitation! We flew Newark to Brussels... Brussels to Delhi, and the same for the return flight.
